A vehicle-pedestrian accident at about
6:30 p.m. on Highway 7 in the Moodyville
area about fi miles east of Center saw one
person killed and another transported to
the Center Emergency Department, with
Hwy. 7 being closed for almost two hours
due to the nature of the accident
According to Department of Pub-
lic Safety Trooper Taylor Buster, who
worked the accident with assistance

sion, but, airport-area an-
nexation drew a lot more
focus, mainly negative.

of Dance Furniture and
on the city’s airport advi-
sory board, noted that the
Federal Aviation Admin-
istration had eliminated

fire-related issues, the
Shelby County Com-
missioners Court had
a few other items on its
Monday agenda.
One was partially re-
lated to fire issues.
Currently, the coun-
ty has $200 a month
budgeted to emergency
management oversight,
plus a $10,000 line item.
County Judge Allison
Harbison said she want-
ed to upgrade that to
hire someone regular
on a part-time basis, for
activities and organiza-
tions in Shelby County.
Her leadership was not-
ed in helping, creating
and sustaining various
programs including the
Backpack Program that
aids in fighting week-
end hunger for school
students, the communi-
ty Flag Program, Proj-
ect Graduation and Ca-
reer Camp with many
volunteers.

feedback at the Center
City Council’s Monday
night meeting.
At the start of the meet-
ing, the council held a
public hearing, the first of
two, on annexation plans.

The Center Police
Department is investi-
gating a robbery that
took place at the Super
Quick Liquor store, 710
Shelbyville St. A black
male wearing a black
jacket and a white hood-
ie reportedly robbed
the store at gunpoint as
the store was closing at
about 9 p.m. on Monday,
Nov. 9. The suspect took
an undisclosed amount
of money from the store.
Center Crime Stop-
pers is offering a cash
$1,000 a month. Harbi-
son said that part of the
person’s work would be
to help the county cre-
ate and maintain a com-
munity wildfire pro-
tection program. The
person would also help
work with the Federal
Emergency Manage-
ment Administration
on natural disaster fil-
ings and more, such as
upgrading emergency
management annexes.
Harbison did note
that it would probably
go over budget for the
year a small amount.

has toy drive
County Attorney
Gary Rholes says
the annual County
Attorney Toy Drive
is now underway.
The Toy Drive needs
donations of new,
unwrapped toys for
boys and girls ages 3
through 13 or mon-
etary donations.
Rholes said his staff
works with Shelby
County schools to ob-
tain names of deserv-
ing children. The toys
will then be distrib-
uted by his office on
Dec. 12.
“The need is great
this year, so we re-
ally need help from
our generous Shel-
by County Citizens,”
Rholes stated. He
added that his office
would like to have do-
nations by Dec. 3.

ity ratings are out from the
Texas Education Agency,
with Shelbyville, Timpson,
Tenaha and Joaquin all
getting some gold stars on
their state report cards.
On school districts, each
district is rated on a 0-110
scale on four indexes: 1.
Student achievement; 2.
student progress; 3. closing
performance gaps; and 4.
postsecondary readiness.
To get the “met standard”
rating from the TEA, a
school district must meet
or exceed state target rank-
ings in either index 1 or
