FFA Banquet
Tonight
Walter Sears, superintendent
of the Mt. Vernon Independent
School District, will welcome
more than 350 FFA members,
sweethearts and guests to the
annual Paris District FFA
Banquet Thursday night, Jan-
uary 29. The banquet scheduled
to begin at 7:30 p.m. will-be
held in the Mt. Vernon School
Cafeteria.
The Mt. Vernon chapter of
FFA have been hosts to this
group many times in the past.
This year several local
members will participate in the
program, which will include the
election of a District Sweet
heart; tryouts for the district
talent team; and selection of
nominees for area offices. The
people selected will compete
and be voted on for respective
positions and honors during the
area FFA convention to be held
February 24 in Paris.

is Mark Ellison State FFA /
President for 1975-76 from

Due to increased postage
charges, newsprint costs,

its rates for subscriptions
from *5.00 to *6.00 per year
in Franklin, Titus, Wood,
Hopkins and Red River
counties effective February
1, 1976. The subscription
rate outside this area will be
increased from *7.00 to *8.00
per year.
Those who are not
subscribers may subscribe
for one year at the old rates
through January 31.
Those who are now
subscribers may renew for
one year at the old rates,
regardless of when their
subscription expires, pre-
vious to January 31.

Acceptance was made by the
court of a portion of abandoned
railroad right of way owned by
the Louisiana-Arkansas Rail-
road. The portion of abandond-
ed right of way is located near
Scroggins in Franklin County.
A request from several land
owners along this railroad right
of way to be allowed use of the
land to gain entrance to their
pastures was made. The court
took no definite action toward
this request.
A letter from Marcus D.
Taylor, mayor of Winnsboro,
was read to the court. The
letter notified the court of
additional charges of *50 per
call per year for calls answered
by the Winnsboro Fire Depart-
ment to Franklin County
outside the Winnsboro city
limits, and asked for advise-
ment as to whether or not these
calls should be answered by the
Winnsboro department.
