Arnold and Yolanda Zam-
brano operate THE SUNSHINE
FARM in Dell Valley, and
they do a beautiful job of it.
With the adjournment of the 98th session of Congress,
several bills met doleat. However, two of them will bo
resubmitted and a Presidential Executive Order is being
prepared should they fail again. This means Inholders
and others whose lives are affected by these bills will be
facing a triple threat with the 1985 legislative sessions.
Congressman John Seiberling and others can be ex-
pected to re-introduce their Park Protection Act which
puts a 10-mile buffer zone around national park areas. It
also gives park superintendents added authority and in-
fluence over all forms of federal funding for loans,
grants, roads, schools and disaster relief within the
zcne. The bill passed the House in 1982 and again in 1983
but was slopped in the Senate which caused Con-
gressman Seiberling to this year begin his battle in the
Senate.
Senator John Chaffee last Congress introduced his
own Buffer Zone Bill which would create a whole new
management area called the Wilderness Resource
Habitat Area. Like Congressman Seiberling's bill it gives
the superintendent of the park more power to regulate
the use of land or force local governments Io regulate os
he desires. Sen. Chaffee intended his bill to be less
restricting, but because it affects areas both inside and
outside the parks, it could threaten inholdors oven more.
Undersecretary of Interior, Ann McLaughlin's proposal
is intended to replace either of the above bills. It is a
form of buffer zone set up by Presidential Executive
Order. It was proposed in April 1984 but because of
negative Inholders (who feel it is worse than either bill)
responses from across the country it was withdrawn.
This is a vital, issue so please contact your Con-
gressman, Senators and Department of the Interior ex-
pressing your concerns.

It was a shock to hear of the death of Evelyn Noble - we
thought so much of her and still occasionally exchanged let-
ters. Poor George - he will just be lost - we’re so sorry for
him and the family.
Jeremy Lewis and his cous-
in, Jay Henson from Mid -
land, brought me two jig-
saw puzzles. Have completed
one.

Daughter Jo in Artesia has been down with the flu, and I
feel like I’ve caught it somewhere - She’s better and back
at work in the Bank. Have heard of several cases.

Evelyn’s mother, Mrs, Vida Baker, went back to El Paso
for Christmas. I didn’t get to visit with her any.
***
Joan and John’s children got them a picture film projector
and we fixed up a screen and Cody put on a picture show one
night when they were here. We really enjoyed it.
We have had cards, letters, telephone calls and visits from
relatives and friends during this Christmas Season, and have
enjoyed the contacts very much.

We met Mrs. Archuleta in the Mini-Mart one day and she
told us of the Baby Shower for Aurora coming up the 18th.
Will see you there.
Jean and Euman sent us the most exciting gifts - Mr. W's
this year is a jacket and mine a beautiful dress - They will
be leaving for South Texas Jan. 1st for some painting classes.
They also sent a walking, "bell-jingling" Santa Claus. He’s
a cutie!

Christmas Day, sister Lola

ceived a check from "Real
West".
When w^jthss Becky Par-
ker’s, I think when we have
time, we’ll stop and visit.
Haven’t made it yet!

We have been having lovely weather, mostly clear and
wind not too boisterious. Really didn’t seem like Christmas
weather without just even a little bit of snow — but it didn’t
come our way. One thing we can be thankful for however;
traveling was not so hazardous.
Everyone I’ve talked with say they and their families have
really enjoyed the Christmas Holidays. Nora Lea and Andy
have had Clark, Dorothy and children, and Kay and Gary
Scarbrough and children from Sierra Blanca — how they have
grown — and Janet and her family have all been home.
Kearney and Nancy and their two boys live nearby and are
in and out often. We appreciate it when those two drop in on
us occasionally. They and I have an amusement in common.
We enjoy doing jig-saw puzzles, and we "swap out" often.
Ruby still has company at her house — her brother, Dan,
is still with her. They went over to Carlsbad for Christmas
Day, and — can you believe it? — had 78 people , mostly
relatives, to eat dinner together at sister Josephine's. I know
they had fun - mentioning things that had happened in the
past.
***
We had calls on Christmas Day from all of our clan, but
John, Joan and Cody were the only members who got to come
out. They arrived on the 23rd and went back home the 26th
- so you can guess how we appreciated them - Joan is a
great cook, and with the prepared food they brought and
what we had prepared, made it easy to take care of the meals.
Cody still had his right hand in a cast, but they had an appoint-
ment to stop in Lubbock and have it taken off on the way home
as it had healed properly.

Kitty and Roger Owen have enjoyed having her dad and his
wife, from Dimmitt, Raye Lynn from Lubbock, and Kay
from Sweetwater as holiday guests. They will sure miss them
when Jhey have to leave.

One day this past week I was sitting in the pick-up waiting
while Mr. W, was in the Mini-Mart, when Bruce Ferguson
ran over and handed me a sack of dried Pinto Beans they
had raised . Must have been 5 lbs. and I cooked a Simmer-
Pot-Full and were they good? - Um! - Thanks again, Bruce.
***
Dean, Odessa and Deana Wood came over Monday evening.
They brought Odessa's big guitar, and Deana and Odessa
sang a Christmas Story, 'then Odessa and I (on piano) played
some other pieces and sang some Christmas Hymns.
***
Fri. Nfe, Lewis called about 8 a. m. that the Sr. Citizen's
Bus was going in to El Paso. We rushed to the City Hall and
waited over an hour - but it had left earlier. So we went on
over and visited with Aurora and her mother, who has been
staying with her.

I went to see Dr. Wiant to get something for my cough.
Did you ever try this old remedy of my grandmother's? Mix
honey and vinegar and sip at intervals. Sure Helps!
Andy and Nora Lea came by the 23rd on the way to Carls-
bad and brought a pan of "monkey bread" - we hadn’t made
any in a long time - and it is so good. She also brought
home-made jelly to go with it. They were on their way to
spend Christmas with Granny and the folks there.
***
We received a box at the P.O. from Jean — Christmas sur-
prises, and a Santa C. who walks, and rings his bells - Lisa
and Gary sent a game for us to pass some time before bed time
hours. Haven't gotten into it yet. Jane called.
