We extend our deepest sympathy,
in their sad bereavement, to the
family of:
NATHAN KRULL
May the bereaved family take
consolation in the memory of the
one they loved, and find the cour-

YAHRZEITS
In observing the date of the Yahrzeit
of your loved one, it is customary to kin-
dle a light at sundown of the day before
the Yahrzeit. This light should burn for
24 hours.
You should attend daily services which
are held at B’rith Abraham, Chartres at
Clay, on the eve and on the day of your
Yahrzeit, at which time Kaddish may be
said. You are invited to attend services
Friday evening at 8 p. m. at the Temple,
at which time you may pay tribute to
your dear departed. The Rabbi will an-
nounce from the pulpit the names of the
Yahrzeits for the following week.
It is also traditional among our people
to contribute on the Yahrzeit in memory
of those we love. This contribution is en-
tirely voluntary, as is the amount, and
may be made to any fund that you desire.
We suggest, however, the flower fund
which goes to decorate the pulpit every
Friday evening and Sabbath morning.
We will announce through “The Mes-
sage” and from the pulpit the names of
the donors and those who are commem-
orated. You may indicate your wishes re-
garding any of the following memorials
you may wish to set up for your
I ones and notify us by either calling

Most parents of our children are aware
of the Keren Ami in our Religious School.
Through the Keren Ami (Fund of My
People), our children contribute to worth-
while Jewish and non-Jewish drives, or-
ganizations and institutions.
Two weeks ago the Keren Ami Coun-
cil (consisting of representatives elected
from each grade) decided to devote the
next two Sundays’ contributions to the
Supplies for Overseas Survivors. The
representatives explained the purposes
of the S. O. S. drive to their classmates
and urged them to bring in as much as
they could spare.
The results went far beyond the dreams
of the Council members. One girl brought
in the birthday gift she recently received
from her grandmother. Last Sunday, boys
and girls brought in, besides their money
contributions, cans of food. It was quite a
sight to behold—little ones trudging along
to school, arms laden with cans and bring-
ing them to the central S. O. S. depot at
our school.
The total of the two Sundays’ drive
was $95.09 and 400 cans of food. Miss
Beatrice Shapiro’s 5th grade was high-
est in the school with a contribution of

THOU ART THE MAN
I remember seeing one of these gigan-
tic poster advertisements with a man
pointing his finger and. as you walk bv,
you felt the finger pointing at you. Scrip-
ture tells of a grievous sin committed by
King David and when the prophet Nathan
told the story of a similar sin, the King
flew into a rage and demanded punish-
ment for the evil-doer. It was hard for
him to recognize that he was the evil-
doer himself. Then it was that the pro-
phet Nathan pointed his finger at him and
said—“Thou art the man!”
It is a wholesome thing for everyone
of us to realize that the finger of destiny
points at each of us.

That thought comes to mind, as we
launch our building fund campaign for
the new and glorious home for Beth
Yeshurun. We have already received some
magnificent gifts towards our great un-
dertaking. Some of the leaders of the
community have demonstrated their gen-
erosity and a public spirit that are almost
incredible.
But no individual, and no small group
of individuals, can erect our Synagogue.
Even if they could do it, we should not
permit it to be done. Every member of
Beth Yeshurun, indeed every Jew in our
community, must have a share in that
enterprise. He must be able to say truth-
fully that in an hour when his religion
and his people called, he answered
“Hineni” (Here I AM). When his child-
