It's official. Rodney Townsend. Jr. took the
bar exam in July, received the results this
month and was officially sworn in by Judge
Buddie Hahn Friday. He is Orange County's
newest attorney.
But the real story is not that he attained his
goal but why he pursued a career in law in the
first place.

STAFF REPORT
FOR THE RECORD
Gateway Cities Proud will host the
Orange County Fall Trash-off Saturday.
Nov. 18.
It all started at Bridge City High School
when Townsend was a student in a business
law class. On one class day. his teacher said
she saw Townsend make a vulgar gesture,
and despite his protests of innocence, would-
n't be swayed from her opinion. Though he
maintains even today that he didn't do it. the
most frustrating thing at the lime was that no
Dunn has been a judge for almost 29
years, having served five years as Orange
County County Court-at-Law' judge and 24
years as 163rd District Court judge. He is
retiring a month before his term ends in
order to have a month's break before his
new job begins.

Friends and colleagues are honoring
Judge David Dunn this week upon his
Nov. 30 retirement from the 163rd District
Court.
A party set for Thursday evening at the
American Legion in Orange will feature a
"mini-roast" with one of the special guests
being former longtime court reporter Jo
Stanfield Young, who now lives in
Marshall.
Although Dunn is hanging up his robe in
the district court position, he will don it
again in January in a new visiting judge
court designed to handle child protective
cases in a multi-county area.

The Record Newspapers
reported recently that
Orangefield Elementary had a
bumper crop of twins with 10
sets on that campus alone, a
remarkable fact considering the
size of the community.
But after that story ran,
Annette Allen, OISD represen-
tative, called to say the final
count wasn't complete. The
district's junior and senior high
schools have seven more sets of
doubles for a grand total of 17
twin pairs, and that doesn't take
into consideration pre-school-
ers or impending arrivals who
may also be twins.
What can account for the
unusual number of twins?
Allen said she didn't know for
sure, but speculation by many
within and without the commu-
nity focuses on the water.
"Well, we haven't put any
special stuff in the water," said
Tammy Henley of the
Orangefield Water District,
"and we have close to 1,2(X)
people on the water rolls, but
there are lots of people who use
wells.
"But if it IS in the water, 1
don't want to drink it any
more," she added, laughing.
In addition to the twins
already reported—Jenna and
Jordan Worthy. Kristen and
Cameron Williams. Jessica and
