  • Display Note: Donated by Tom Busby to the McWhiney History Education Group, formerly known as the Grady McWhiney Research Foundation, the VanBuren Whipple Sargent Letter Collection is housed at McMurry University’s Jay-Rollins Library in Abilene, Texas. The collection is comprised of twenty letters written by V. W Sargent to his family while he was serving in the Union Army during the Civil War. Having enlisted in the army as a private in 1861, Sargent served in Company F, 27th Iowa Infantry until the end of the war.
