When this company commenced business in February last conditions throughout this sec-
tion were badthe Mexican revolution was just beginning and trade was stagnant West Texas
and Eastern New Mexico were drouth Btricken in Arizona the price of copper was below normal.
We had calculated upon writing under favorable conditions one million of paid for in-
surance our f irst'year but in view of the unfavorable conditions that did actually exist
we were a trifle pessimistic but with an abiding faith in our company our policies and our
people we entered the lists and issued our first policy on February the- 17th. Just ten
months and thirteen days thereafter when we closed our -books on December 31st for the fiscal
year we had paid for $1064000 of insurance and had 114500 of issued business in the hands
of our agents for delivery thus exceeding in ten and a half months our expected production
for twelve months by $169000. Five hundred and twenty-seven-poldcy holders-had- joined JDhe
Two Republics Family the merits of .our company and our contracts had been recognized by the
insuring public. We take this opportunity to thank our friends all for their support
and -their favors.
We commence our second year with general conditions materially bettered all down the
line. Peace and prosperity.'are with us and the" prospects for 1912 are exceptionally bright.
We have improved our old policy contracts where possible and have put or&some new ones too.
Our-Limited Pay and Deferred Annuity is the best under"'he sun.
The officers and directors of this company wish you and yours a prosperous year and
ask a continuance of your patronage
Yours for the common good

he died unfriended and unrewarded.
Then it as that Hpwe. apparently
quite unconscious of what had Men
done by others began tMnkln of the
machine which he succeeded In pat-
enting in 1846
But again the pluxa.1 character of
the honor of the great Invention ap-
pears. Tne two most important fea-
tures of tit Howe machine the curved
Se-pom ted needle and the underthread
uttle without which his Invention
would have been no improvement upon
the machines that had gone before It
ware Invented by Walter Hunt 12 years
previously .
Says a high authority "Hunt reaped
nothing of the enormous pecuniary re-
ward which has been shared among the
introducers of sewing machines and It
is all the more necessary that his
great merit as an inventor should be
insisted upon."
Howe had received in royalties up to
the time of his death in 1MT more
than two millions of daQars while
Hunt the man who invented the essen-
tial feature of tne Howe machine
many years before Howe got out Tils
patent received nothing. Such is "jus-
tice." as It is seen "in the corrupted
currents of this world." One sowetn
and another reapeth and so it will
probably be to the end of time.
And yt there is a sort of Justice in
things evea as they are. It appears that
Walter Hunt failed to patent his ln.en-
tion while Ellas Howe patented hla.
Had Hunt done what he ought to have
done he would have received both the
glory and the reward.
