NOTE All Market news on

prices (unless buy or bid be
specified) on Tuesday Janu-
- ary 28.
New York N. Y. Jan. 28. Varied in-
fluences continued today's early mani-
festation of pronounced strength in
the stock market but perhaps the
most potent factor in lifting quotations
was Gov. Sulzers message concerning
the stock exchange which was re-
garded as moderate in tone. Excellent
December reports of western roads
strengthened the railroad list
Manipulative operations by powerful
interests encouraged participation in
the market and speculation at times
was lively.
Bonds -were steady."
When the spectacular bidding up of
Can stopped the market became dull.
Later there "was a movement upward
in which the best prices of the fore-
noon" were eclipsed.
Stocks were bought freely. Favor-
able December earnings according for
the wider demand for the Harriman
stocks.
The market closed strong. Some
realizing went on on the part of the
railroads buying to cover shorts.
