informed there was about $950
in the transportation fund for
Zamboanga City. This is a
great shy of the $1900 needed
to purchase the Volkswagen

for transportation because we
are tired of walking or using
public transportation, but be-

OF THE CHURCH”
By HARVEY CHILDRESS
MINNEAPOLIS. Minn -Sun
day, Feb 15, will be a day long-
remembered by the Lord's peo-
ple in tile Twin Cities of Min
nesota. It marked the formal
opening of the new building in
Richfield.
Some 125 people came for the
morning services, and 172 for
the evening service. This was
the largest attendance of mem
bers of the Lord's church in
this state, and perhaps in the
immediate area
Fifteen years ago we came
here to work witli a nucleus of
15 members. Since then a self
supporting church has been
built in both Minneapolis and
St Paul The Richfield congre-
gation is the first attempt to
build a congregation in the
fast growtli towns that sur-
round tiie Twin Cities. We be-
gan in June 1957 with 25 mem
bers from the Central Church
in Minneapolis. We have since
lost nearly half of those orlgi
mil members, but we have
reached others, and today
have 31 members.
We believe the Richfield
Church can move toward being
another self supporting church
as soon as we can raise $2,000
to pay off our contractor on
our building. That will leave
us with just the regular inort
gage payments on the $30,000
loan we have on the building.

Avenue,
There has been a growing
tendency in the Far East
toward Nationalism and the
movement is gaining momen-
tum with time The Philippine
archipelago is feeling the
great force. Spain had control
of the Islands for nearly 400
years ami at the termination
of that regime America be-
came the controlling force and
was until Independence was
granted the country in 1946.
Foreign domination created a
feeling among the natives that
they were slaves and puppets
in their own land Filipinos
began to consider their country
merely as

it is felt, will appease the in-
jured ego and will solve the
economic ills which plague the

time The movement has not

Today there was an Ameri-

subject of Filipino superstition.
This was fresh on my mind as
I have been discussing it
quite a bit. as of late, with
our students. Many, many by
far the majority (it appears)
of Filipinos believe in witches,
men that can change them-
selves into beasts, and most
anything that is shaded with
mystery. Pagan in origin, It
is a "tough nut to crack” and
especially so when the people
see (they think) an abundance
of evidence on every hand to
substantiate such a belief. In
the course of our conversation,
our visitor said the only way
to reach these people with
religion is give them a religion
which offers them witches and
mystery and such like. That
is precisely the trouble now,
the people have been bound
to a religion which has offered
no greater satisfaction than
