was extended to North Atlanta to guide an
existing community church called Rainbow,
so named because of the cultural and racial
mix of its members.
Since that time members from North
Atlanta have provided much of the leadership
and teaching for Rainbow. Several people
have been baptized during this period, with
many other studying with visiting workers.
John Mitchell, serving in Almaty during this
interim, is searching for a downtown location
in which a Christian contact center can be
organized.

Those messages of concern went lo Scan Graves, former member of the
Columbine church, who was seriously injured in the Littleton shooting, fo Dan
Steepleton, member of the University church, who is recovering from bullet
wounds in his knee and to other teens w ho saw the v iolence and carnage of the
Littleton Columbine High School shooting.
Sean Graves continues to struggle to recover. Shoulders says. It is not known
whether he will walk again, and he and his parents who "have basically been liv-
ing at the hospital " would benefit from cards and other expressions of concern.

Dan Steepleton is recovering well and will finish rehabilitation this month.
Shoulders said. Steepleton learned when his belongings were recovered from the
school that his back pack filled with books may have saved his life. He had held
it in front of his chest during the shtxiling. and it had shielded him from lour bullets

Evangelism begins in Islamic Kazakhstan

ministry from the beginning,” observed Char-
les Bishop, missions minister for the North
Atlanta, Ga., church
Here is how an opening came for evange-
lism in that predominantly Islamic former
Soviet republic, according to Bishop:
A young Kazakh woman pled with Ron
Wood, North Atlanta elder, for her city.
“Please establish a church in my town.
There isn’t a church of Christ there.”
This led Wood and Bishop to travel to
Kazakhstan to investigate the possibilities for
Danbury, Conn., church:
‘Farfrom perfect, but close to God,’
