SYDNEY (UP). — Japan has
found a new source for iron from
the mines on Koolan Island, Yami
Sound, on the northwest coast of
Australia.
Akknough the mines belong to
Australia and will be developed
by Aus ralian capital, this has
been made possible by Japan’s or-
ders for the ore. Under the con-
tract just made, Japan will take
300,000 tons tne first year ana
he output will, be gradually in-
creased tc 1,000,000 tons a year,
with Japan always the principal
buyer.
An Australian company with
$5,000,000 capital has been org-
anized to develop the mines, where
ustralian miners will have steady
employment.

This Argentine cruiser, the Velnticinco de Mayo, was stationed at Alicante, on the southeast coast of
Spain, to embark high Spanish government officials when approach of Rebel armies made it dangerous
for officials to remain in the country. President Manuel Azana and some cabinet ministers were re-
ported to havt obtained permission to flee on the cruiser. Argentina, which until 1816 belonged to
Spain, thus extended the right of asylum to its mother country.

Threat of a new Pacific coast
dock strike centered attention on
the activities of Harry Bridges,
shown here in a new picture.
Bridges is the fiery leader of
coast longshoremen, who direct-
ed the violent 1934 maritime
strike. He will be a prominent
figure in negotiating any agree-
