building Wednesday afternoon, the
meeting being held for the purpose
of making a compromise in regard
o the rate of tax to be levied in
case the independent district car-
ries. Col.- Thos. Spruance pre-
sided and stated the purport of the
meeting. He thought that a 25
cent tax would be adequate td build
and maintain a $12,000 school
house and stated that he was
heartily in favor of it. After some
discussion the 25-cent rate was
agreed on. The following gentle-
men were named for the ticket to be
voted on for trustees, the seven re-
ceiving the largest number of votes

The present session of our public
school will close Friday nth lust.
The closing exercises will consist
of public examinations in all grad-
es. Thursday and Friday till noon Jof the citizens’ Nation# Bank
and entertainments Thursday and
Friday evening*. Exercises Thurs-
day evening will be given by first,
second, third-and fourth grades;
Friday evening by fifth, sixth, sev-
