SCREENING AND ENDORSEMENT PROCEDURES

day, March 10th. Switch the March general membership meeting to March 17th.
2. Schedule candidate screenings for February 1 (Saturday) from 8:00 AM to 3:00
PM in Channing Hall, First Unitarian Church. Recommendations for endorse-
ment will be made at the conclusion of all-day screening session. A
candidates' reception would follow from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. At 7:00 PM the
general membership meeting would start. The recommendations of the
screening and endorsement committee would be considered and candidate
endorsements voted on by the general membership. The community at large
would be invited to attend the candidates' reception.
3. Begin mailing of letters and questionnaires to announced candidates no later
than January 3. 1991.
Screening Committee
1. Recommend establishment of a screening committee to review the returned
questionnaires and to screen the candidates as well as to make recommend-
ations to the general membership.
2. Membership of the Screening Committee is open to all paid members of the
organization. However, in order to vote on recommendations, a member must
have attended at least two-thirds of the Saturday, all-day screening
session.
Requirements for Endorsement
1. The candidates must complete and return the questionnaire and must attend a
screening session. Candidates may still be considered if they attend the
February 1st meeting, however, they will be encouraged to attend a screening
session. Candidates for statewide office may in lieu of a personal
appearance send a representative authorized to speak on their behalf with
regard to issues covered in the questionnaire. Again, candidates will be
encouraged to appear in person. In the case of any candidate who is
legitimately unable to attend the Saturday screening, an attempt may be made
to arrange a special screening session.
2. Screening sessions shall be chaired by an officer of LGPC or by a member
designated by the Board of Directors.
3. A candidate who does not attend a screening session will not be eligible for
recommendation by the Screening Committee (except for as provided in No. 1
above) but will still be eligible for endorsement by the general membership
if the candidate attends the February 1st meeting.
4. Candidates will be allowed a total of 15 minutes during the screenings. The
candidatewill have 2 minutes to make a presentation and 13 minutes for
questions and answers.
5. Our endorsements will be publicized not only in the gay but also in the
