Student From
Unusual School
Obeys Gospel
By Billy Smith
OM1KA. Japan — A gospel
meeting recently held in I tsii-
nomiya resulted in the baptism
of an unusual young man.
Hajimc Awano was a student
in a university which since an-
cient times was for the train-
ing of the Japanese Samurai
(warrior), stressing high moral
I and ethical standards
Although the school no long-
er trains Samurai, its stand-
ards remain the same Out of
this background this young man
visited the gospel meeting tor
intellectual stimulation
In the discussion period he
reasoned that high moral stand-
ards were sufficient grounds tor
justification. Even though he ob-
jected to the message of Chnst,
his heart was honest Before the
meeting was over, he came to
believe in the One God and his
Son Jesus Christ, and that jus-
tification comes by faith m
tucky and had been preaching
for churches of Christ for 16
years in Kentucky, Tennessee,
Missouri, Georgia, Illinois, Kan-
sas, Ohio and Michigan He
first began preaching in Michi-
gan in 1952 at the Wyandotte
congregation in the Greater De-
troit area. In 1958, he began
working with the Kirkwood
church in Atlanta, Ga , but re-
turned to the Detroit area in
December.
