These
three institutions teach only
Bible as the major subject, and
related subjects: Church his-
tory, languages, music, speech,
and evangelism. No money is
spent on secular education, yet
we believe they are important,
but can better be handled by
secular organizations, because
of the great cost.
A Bible School can be fi-
nanced for one-tenth the cost
of a standard secular school,
but at the same time offer just
as much religious training as
a semi-religious college No
church donated money is spent
for secular education.
The need for thorough Chris-
tian education in the Philippines
is very great Catholicism has
left the Philippines ignorant of
th" Bible Protestantism has not
done much better The masses
of the people know very little
about God s word The denomi-
nations are primarily dedicated
educationally to teaching their
various doctrines.
They avoid or explain away
alk Bible passages that conflict
with their systems of doctrine
or practice They become skilled
AwisteTs of the scriptures. They
are as much of a problem in
promoting New Testament
Christianity as are the Catho-
lics Both groups make it neces-
sary that leaders of the Church
of Christ be thoroughly taught
in the word of God in order to
achieve a real restoration of
unadulterated Christianity in the

No truly spiritually-minded per-

knowledge of God. Christian ed-

kinds: preaching tracts, books,
magazines, radio and television

but the one I want to write
about here is our Bible schools

We have three Bible schools

Philippines is weak financially
for two reasons: it is very small
and new, and the economic coo-
dition is about one fifth as good
as it is in the States. We must
depend upon State-side help un-

must reduce our program to a

Protestants get control of the
people now while they

The Filipino Christians are
not sitting down while their
American brethren sacrifice and
work Preachers often hike long
distances to preach in remote
places They preach and teach
four to six hours at one time.
They go to another village and
do the same thing They worship
in small crowded places, in
homes, under the houses in
sheds without walls, without
seats They eat little food some-
times, barely enough to stay
well, in order to have trans-
portation money or meager
church buildings. Students work
at any jobs and eat little food
in order to go to school and stu-
dy the Biblat If American
brethren could observe the Fil-
ipino one week, they would be
moved to sacrifice much more
in order to have fellowship with
their Filipino brethren
