Hold Annual Meet;
Had Prosperous Year
The 15th/Annual Meeting of the
McKinney Production Credit As-
sociation was held Saturday, July
23rd in the Boyd High School Audi-
torium. About 400 members, their
wives and guests were present.
The Association was organized in
k A 1933 when 9 members chipped in
$5.00 each. Realizing the need of a
■ credit system adapted to the needs
of the farmers at a low cost, the
U. S. Government loaned this asso-
ciation over $300,000.00 to serve as
their capital until the association
/ 'was able to return it. All has been
^4 returned except $5,000.00. It is the
' plan of the association to return the
last $5,000.00 to the Government on
December 31, 1949. Starting with a
member owned capital of only $45.00,
the hsociation now has a member
owned capital and reserve of $268,-
735.00. From the beginning of 9
MEMBERS, the association now has
OVER 1300 MEMBERS.
An address by Mr. Leland D.
Cai^ipbell, assistant vice-president,
of Houston, was the outstanding
feature of the meeting. He pointed
out that since this association was
organized, over $16,000,000.00 had
been loaned with losses amounting
to only 1/350 of 1%. A special chick-
Ly en dinner, prepared by Patterson
Cannery, Cooper, Texas, was served
in the cafeteria of the school and
over $175.00 in prizes were awarded
the wives of the stockholders. Di-

The National Geographic So-
ciety reports that Americans
in general like spinach. In
fact, it’s as popular as a quiet
barber. This will be a shock
to cartoonists and wits who
have tabbed spinach as the top
villian on the nation’s blue
plate luncheon. Spinach pro-
ducers through the country
will deliver 180,000 tons of the
succulent greens to the tables
of America this year. 180,000
tons . . . that ain’t hay, as the
feller says . . . but if you’re
allergic to spinach, it might
well be. Next time your young
sprouts object to spinach, tell
’em the above facts. Maybe
they’ll turn over a new leaf.
