Posthumous honor
Wendolyn Maxwell was posthumously
named a Melvin Jones Fellow by the Ed-
mond Lions Club July 24.
Named for the founder of Lions Club In-
ternational. the fellowship is the highest
honor the foundation can bestow in recogni-
tion of commitment to humanitarian service.
In Maxwell’s honor, Daily Oklahoman col-
umnist Robert E. Lee presented a plaque and
lapel pin to her husband, Willie Maxwell Jr.
Maxwell was serving Oklahoma Christian
University as an assistant professor of educa-
tion and a supervisor of student teachers at
the time of her death last summer

PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY
$1 million gift
MALIBU. Calif — Rosemary Raitt has
made a SI million-plus gift to Pepperdine
University.
Rant, a leading businesswoman, philan-
thropist and long-time supporter of Pep-
perdine. co-chairs the university’s current
$300 million “Challenged to Lead” fund-
raising campaign. She has been associated
with Pepperdine for more than 25 years and
was the first person to establish a scholarship
at the university’s Malibu campus. She has
made numerous other gifts benefitting
Pepperdine students.

and Tom Varghese received Bachelor of
Theology degrees during the May 4 gradua-
tion ceremonies of Western Christian Col-
lege. King has gone to serve in the Ukraine,
Varghese, to India as a teacher.
Jenny Cox received an Associate of Arts
Degree. John Close and Malcolm Tarrant re-
ceived biblical studies diplomas. Eight in-
