ton of Beaumont, and L. V. Menton
of Dallas.
From Mercedes will be Mr. and
Mrs. H. J. Menton. A fifth brother,
who resides in Washington, will be
unable to attend.
Miss Angela Murray will arrive
this weekend from San Antonio and
will remain with her parents until
after the holidays.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lindaberry and
NTr and Mrs. Johnny Snow plan to
leave Christmas Eve to spend the
holidays with relatives in San Mar-
cos and San Antonio. The Linda-
berrys will go direct to San Marcos,
while the Snows will visit Mr.
Snow's mother and father in San
Antonio, then join the Haynes fam-
ily in San Marcos for the annual
family re-union.

Special awards for perfect attend-
ance and practice records for three
months were given to Howard Ries,
Delores Rinn, Bettylou Williams,
and Patricia Williams. Achieve-
ment awards were also given to
Carolyn Henderson and Mary Lee

Marilyn and M. D. Cohn assisted in
serving Christmas tree cookies and
cocoa tn the guests. The refresh-
ment table was laid with a lace
cloth over red and centered with a
brightly lighted Christmas tree.

mas decor were crystal balls and
tall red tapers.
Favors for the girls were silver
bells tied with red satin to wear
on the wrist and received vari-
colored horns.
Gladioli in pastel shades made
the pretty centerpiece for the re-
freshment table where punch was
served. Individual candies were
tied in colored cellophane with lit-
tle Christmas trees in the center.
Mary Ann Starr. McAllen, cut
the cake, a beautifully decorated
confection topped by ten candles.

When Santa comes scrambling down the chimney, he’ll
find D'Ette Looney, (shown in the upper right photo on
preceding page) excitedly waiting to tell him what to
put in her stocking and maybe she’ll want to tell him
some toys that Sister Louise would like to find in her
stocking, too. D’Ette is two years old and is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Looney of Edinburg.
This Christmas business is rather new to Katherine
Little, one year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Con
Little who live on Arroyo Drive in Harlingen, but if
there's to be new, interesting toys, Katherine can be
depended upon to exhibit enthusiasm.
Of course, she knows the verses by heart, but it’s a
good idea to refresh one’s memory when the time for
St. Nick’s visit is so very near. Little Carmel Ann
Chisum, pictured at the lower left, lives near Hidalgo
and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Chisum.

Kathryn Turney Garten and Jose-
phine Turney of Indianapolis, In-
diana. They departed Friday morn-
ing by plane for Mexico City, and
plan to visit there and in Merida
before returning home by way of
Brownsville on January 1.
The two visitors were greeted
here by Mrs. G. W. Johnson. Miss
Garten is a lecturer on books, and
is enjoying a brief vacation before
beginning a tour which includes
speaking engagements from Jan-
uary 2 until June 4.

Mrs. Harry Harkins of Dallas will
arrive Tuesday to be the guests for

HARLINGEN — A Christmas tea
was the pleasant courtesy enjoy-
ed by Garden club members and
their guests at the conclusion of
an especially interesting program
Thursday that gave recognition to
the approach of Christmas.
Mrs. J. W. Wade, gave art inspir-
ing talk on '•’The Spirit of Christ-
mas.”
Mrs. W. H. Carlisle sang “The
Message of the Angels” and ‘‘The
Birthday of a King" from Dvorak's
"New World Symphony.” She was
accompanied by Miss Mary Eliza-
beth Chalies.
A delightful flower playlet, pres-
ented pupils from the South Ward
School, was given under the direc-
tion of Mrs. Frank Crown. Each
child represented a different flow-
er. The play was written by Marilyn
Cohen. The children sang a group
of carols to conclude the program, j
Club members heard a report on
the costume entered by the organi-
zation in the Weslaco style show |
and worn by Miss Dorothy Carl- ,
isle and a rising vote of thanks was
given Mrs. G. A. Larson who work-
ed out the design and did the pre-
liminary work.
Each member brought a gift for
the Day Nursery Building and rec-
ognition was given to the birthdays
of Mrs. Carlisle and Mrs. W. E. Mc-
Williams.
Huge red roses and red candles
centered the tea table where a
variety of open-faced sandwiches
and other dainties were served.
Mrs. E. O. Anglin poured coffee
and Mrs. L. R. Dubois, president,
poured tea.
In charge of arrangements for
the afternoon were Mrs. Wade,
chairman, and Mrs. McWilliams,
Mrs. H. C. Ware, and Miss Pearl
Wahler.

BROWNSVILLE—Annual Christ-
mas party of the Beta Sigma Phi
was held Thursday evening in the
form of a covered dish supper at
the home of Mrs. Harvey E. Nuckols.
At the event, the secret pals were
revealed in the exchange of gifts,
when Mrs. Tom Barber. Jr., acted
as Santa Claus. The members drew
names for secret pals again, and
these will be revealed at the birth-
day meeting of the sorority in
March.
The four pledges chose as their
“big sisters” the following: Mrs.
Paul Ellington. Mrs. Harvey E. Nu-
ckols; Miss Elizabeth Canales. Mi«s
Miriam Bray: Misses Jane Richard-
son and Mozelle Pruden, Miss Inez
Brulay.
Miss Canales led in singing Christ-
mas carols which closed the meeting.
Attending were Misses Jane Rich-
ardson, Mozelle Pruden. Elizabeth
Canales. Mary Patrick. Laverne Sul-

days with friends.

orately decorated in silver and
large double red poinsettias.
Mrs. Norman Wilson of Harlin-
gen was soloist, singing "I Love
You Truly” and •'Because” prior
to the traditional wedding marches,
“Bridal Chorus” from Wagner's
Lohengrin. and Mendelssohns
“Wedding March” which were play-
ed by Miss Robin Cook, pianist.
The bride, who entered with her
father and was given by him in
marriage, wore a gown of tradi-
tional bridal satin fashioned with
short train. The bodice had a sweet-
heart neckline and the sleeves, full
at the shoulders, narrowed to fit
closely to a point over the hand.
Her beautiful • veil, fingertip
length, was caught into a bridal
halo. Her flowers were an arm
bouquet of orange blossoms and
chrysanthemums arranged in show-
er effect and her only ornament
was a single strand ol pearls. For
something old she carried an heir-
loom handkerchief of rose point.
The bride was attended by Mrs.
Lyle Grace who wore soldier blue
velveteen and carried an arm bou-
quet of red roses.
Quin McManus attended the
bridegroom and ushers were Van
Blackwell and Eugene Vaughan.
Immediately after the ceremony
the couple left on a wedding trip.
Mrs. Vaughan chose for her go-
ing away costume, a light weight
soldier blue wool with gold and
white accessories. The bride is a
graduate of Falfurrias high school
and attended Texas A. & I. College
at Kingsville. The bridegroom grad-
uated from Weslaco high school and
business college in Houston.
Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan will be
at home to their many friends in
Weslaco after the New Year.

WESLACO—In rites performed
against a beautiful background ex-
pressive of the Christmas season,
Miss Betty Belle Blackwell, daugh-

well, and James Vaughan, son of

changed marriage vows Saturday
morning in the First Presbyterian

Hubbard of Fort Brown, will ar-
rive here at the weekend from the
Terrill Preparatory school and jun-
ior college at Dallas, for the Christ-
mas holidays.
The Brownsville youth, who is
preparing at the Dallas school for
California Tech, will go on a hunt-
ing trip to Mexico with his parents
during the holidays. He has one of
the highest scholastic rankings in
his class at Terrill., Headmaster
Sam M. Davis, has announced.
