Turning warships into oyster dredg-
1 ers is decidedly a new departure, but it
has been officially reported in th* cuna
of the collier Brutus, whioh. after serv-
ice in Manila bay, has been docked at
I the Mare Island naval station, San
Francisco. It was found that the hull
was covered with a thick growth art
oysters, the shells of which are 1**B®
and were firmly attached to the plating.
The impediment to speed must have
been material.
Naval Constructor Baxter has sent
