Mr. D. W. Kempner
Brenners Park-Hotel
Baden-Baden, Germany
Dear Mr. Dan:
I received your notations on my letter to you of August 25th.
I am enclosing herewith copy of letter received from Sallie E. Blake,
as well as copy of my letter to Mr. M. M. Smith, regarding the 471
acres known as the "Forrester Place". I am also enclosing a letter
from W. B. Keyser. As you will note, he states he has ginned 464
bales. The last ginning report we received on yesterday states that
he has now ginned 535 bales. I feel confident that he has received
lots of rain during the last few days, as it has rained in Galveston
all day Sunday and part of Monday. The rain has not been heavy - just
a good, steady rain.
I talked to Mr. Jungman on yesterday, and told him you would
not be willing to consider a price of $325, 000. 00 for the Prudential
Building. He called back late yesterday afternoon and said that he
might get his people up to $330, 000. 00 or $340, 000. 00, but did not be-
lieve they would go beyond that. I referred him to your letter of May 11th
wherein you told him that your associates might be interested in an offer
for the property of $350, 000. 00, net to us. He wanted to know if he could
not call you and talk to you over the telephone, but I told him this was not
necessary - that we had heard from you direct, and that Mr. I. H. Kempner
and Mr. R. Lee Kempner were entirely familiar with the correspondence
and negotiations carried on by Mr. Dan. He stated he wanted to come down
tomorrow and talk to Mr. Ike, myself, and Mr. Lee, arriving here around
9:30 or 10:00. I told him this was all right - it would be good to see him,
but we still would not consider an offer of $325, 000.00. I will let you know
after his arrival tomorrow.
I am enclosing an article published by the Humble Farm Family,
regarding Sugarland Industries, which I know you will enjoy reading.
We have been quite busy in the office, buying lots of cotton and
invoicing a very little. What cotton we have invoices has been on cash on
arrival basis, which makes the financing a little difficult.
