—“Six things ate requisite to a suc-
cessful business. The fust is a little
capital. The other five ate comprised
in judicious advertising.”—Success.
niie Matagorda’s rights this year, and
give her the representative If she wants
it. Perhaps he does not want it, but
in any event she should be given the
chance to refuse it. Braioria has the
largest number of delegates, and can
nominate the representative if she sees
fit to do so. However, nothing can be
lost by treating Matagorda with fairness.
We will want her assistance in the future,
and want her friendship now.

—Silas Franz and John Serrill return-
ed from Houston last Friday night,
where they had gone to have Dr. E. D.
Lunn, the talented oculist of that city,
formerly of this county, treat Mr. Franz's
eyes. The many friends of Silas will be
glad to know that Dr. Lunn gave it as
his opinion that the injured eye will
heal up in the course of four or five
months, without the loss of the sense of
sight.
—S. H. Stevens, the old reliable
liveryman, of Wharton, is now running
the Daily Mail Hack, leaving here at
6 o’clock a m and leaving Wharton at
1130 p m even day. He has plenty of
good teams and good covered rigs, and
can not. carry passengers to and from
Bay City in short time and in comfort-
able style in any kir.d of weather. Meets
all trains promptly. Fresh team every
day. Charges reasonable*
—In a long article on Texas Boys in
the Navy, appearing in last Sunday’s
Galveston News, we find the following
notice of a well-known Matagorda coun-
ty boy: “In the pay corps ot the navy
is Able B. Pierce, a native Texan. He
entered the service by appointment as
an assistant paymaster with ths rank of
Ensign on may ao, 1898. At this date
he is in charge of stores and pay ac-
counts on the gunboat Concord, which
is a part of Admiral Watson's fleet in
Asiatic waters.”
Pneumonia is one of the most dan-
gerous and fatal diseases. It always
results from a cold. Chamberlain’,
Cough Remedy will quickly cure a cold
and perhaps prevent an attack of pneu-
monia. It is in fact made especially
for that ailment and has become famous
for its cures over a Urge part of the civ-
ilized world. It counteracts any tenden-
cy of a cold tow aid pneumonia. Can you
afford to neglect your cold when so re-
liable a remedy can be had for a trifle?

by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the cur.
There is only one way to cure deafness,
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deafness is caused by an inflamed con-
dition of the mucous lining of the Eu-
stachian l ube When this tube gets in-
flamed you have a tumbling sound or
imperfect hearing, and when it is entire-
ly closed deafness is the result, and un-
less the inflammation can be taken out
and this tube restored lo it, normal con-
dition, hearing will be destroyed forever;
nine cases out of ten are caused by ca-
tarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed
condition of the mucous surfaces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars
for any ca»e of Deafness (caused by
< atarrh) that can not be cured by Hall’s
Catarrh Cure. Send fur circulars, free.
