Rebate Owed by Department.
Postmistress Miss Ida Jones
received notification' this morning
that her, office was to repay to a
long suffering public rhe' sum ol
$272, being two cents over charge
on each of 136 money orders issued
by the Navasota office between
July 1 and 12.
All this is brought about by
new revenue law. This measure
became effective July 1, and re
duced the stamp that the customer
paid for through the department.
The local office knew that the law
was effective ' but continued to
charge the tax until the 12th, when
official notice to discontinue same
was r^eived. In other words, fcr
some cause the department could
not serve the notices earlier and
the local office must follow laws,
rules and regulations and orders
of the department regardless of
consequences, thereby continuing
the charge until orders were re-
ceived.
Everyone buying a money order
between July 1 and 12, are request-
ed to call at once for the 2c rebate.
