Staff Processes
'Early' Permits
During Holidays
Requests for time permits for the
spring semester may be submit-
ted by currently enrolled SAC stu-
dents next Monday and Tuesday.
The Registrar’s Office staff will
work during the Christmas holi-
days to process requests. Enroll-
ment and time permits should be
ready for distribution on or about
January 6. Students will be advised
of the exact time through the Stu-
dent Council bulletin and a facul-
ty bulletin, which will be read in
all classes.
Blank request cards for time
permits will be available at the
Registrar’s Office and at the Loftin
Student Center Office. Students
should deposit cards in the orange
can in the lobby of the Adminis-
tration Building. Each student may
fill out only one card.
Approximately 1,400 upperclass-
men were given first priority for
time permits during the early part
of December. Each individual went
to an adviser to discuss gradua-
tion, grades and courses. This pro-
gram was under the direction of
Mr. Charles Breeden. More than
100 faculty members and advisors
were used for this program.
Entering freshmen are to report
to the Counseling Office for a
pre-registration interview and for
time permits. Transfer students are
scheduled to clear in the Coun-
seling Office. Prior SAC students
will be shown priority over other
college transfer students,
A student may get a time per-
mit, but it is only valid if the stu-
dent has met all other conditions
of admission. “Students have the
responsibility of determining their
academic status,” comments Dr.
Jerome Weynand. All tuition and
fees must be paid at the time of
registration.

Despite crowded conditions in the Ballroom, Mr. Theron Kirk and the Stage Band and College Choir
assembled in a corner to open the campus Christmas activities with appropriate music.
Interspersed among this sing-
ing, Mr. Allan Ross is to read the
“Nativity” as recorded in the book
of Luke, and the Collegiate Chor-
ale will present a selection of
Spanish carols accompanied by
rhythm instruments.
Rounding out the program will
be Miss Irene Liden singing “Ge-
su Bambino,” Mr. George Greg-
ory playing a special Christmas se-
lection on the organ and Doracy
Wood and the choir singing “O
Holy Night.”
The Wind Ensemble will pre-
sent several novelties such as
“Sleigh Ride” and a fantasy on
“Jingle Bells.”

Thomas Wilson, designer and student chairman of the traditional
Christmas window project, supervises the erection of the abstract
scene.
Ari Major's Abstract Design
Wins Christmas Window Contest
Nineteen-year-old Thomas Wilson, a freshman
major, has designed the scene which is depicted on the
Administration Building window. At the west end of the
Administration Building there exists a two-story expanse
of window. For eleven months of the year, that window
serves only to allow a hasty glance
at San Pedro Avenue for students
who are rushing to catch the bus
coming down the 'hill. Then, in
mid-December, the window lives
with color. It becomes the Christ-
mas window.
Freshmen from all the basic de-
sign classes submitted window de-
signs as a project. The designs
were then judged by art instruc-
tors Mr. Jack Champion and Mrs.
Margaret Pace, who are directors
of the project. All freshman de-
sign students, whenever possible,
worked under the direction of Mr.
Champion, cutting the wood, card-
board and theatrical gel to form
the window from the design.
Midst the banging of hammers
and whisk-whisking of glue brush-
es, the window took its form. It
was completed and erected Thurs-
day, December 9.
This window is unique. When
asked about his design, Thomas
replied, “Although the window is
a nativity scene, it is more abstract
than usual.” Usually the window is
decorated with a more realistic de-
sign; this is the first time abstract
art from SAC has been exhibited
on such a scale.
In the upper third of the win-
dow, an angel hovers to the left
and a star shines from the right.
A manger, the virgin and child
grace the middle third, while the
wise men kneel at the bottom
right.
“Christmas at Midnight” will be
the theme of Sigma Phi Sigma’s
annual Christmas dance tomorrow
night, December 18. Playing from
8-12:30 p.m. in the Shangri-La
Ballroom, the “Outcasts” will fur-
nish the entertainment for the
semi-formal affair.
Tickets may be purchased from
any sorority member for $1.50 a
couple. The decorations will carry
out the color scheme of gold and
silver with red highlights.
All dance committees are under
the supervision of Betty Hodgkins,
sorority vice president. Different
committees and their chairmen are
as follows: Dorothy Favella, enter-
tainment; Janine Jank, publica-
tions; Susan Dix, decorations; Bob-
bye Koenning, tickets; Nancy
■Casper, clean-up; and Lynette
Sims, refreshments.
