Record Income Is
Reported by ARKLA
Consolidated net income of Ar-
kansas Louisiana Gas Company
reached a record high of $28,159-
,000 in 1965, W. R. Stephens, presi-
dent and chairman of the board,
announced today. The 1985 amount
compares with $23,714,000 for the
previous year.
The 1965 net, after preference
dividends, is toe equivalent of
$2.57 per common share on the 10,-
120,152 shares outstanding and is a
10% per cent increase over the
$2.32 per common share for the
j aar 1964. 4
Reporting unaudited figures on
1965 operations to the board of di-
rectors, Stephens said that more
than 53 per cent of net income was
attributable to non-utillty opera-
tions of the company and its man-
ufacturing subsidiaries, especially
cement, chemicals and production
of gas air conditioning equipment
Stephens said that the increase
in 1965 earnings was reflected in
the board's decision at its January
meeting to increase the annual div-
idend rate by 14 cents per share,
to an anticipated $1.50 for 1966.
This is the third consecutive year
in which'the annual rate has been
incmssd.
“This step was consistent with
our announced policy in 1963 to
review the company’s payout rate
at the beginning of each year,”
Stephens told the directors. He
said , that the board intends to con-
tinue this policy.
^Although construction expendi-
tures of $66,857,000 by the com-
pany and its subsidiaries in 1965
were at all-time high. Stephans
said that expenditures for 1986 will
amount to about $55 million —
over $120 million for toe two years.
This would include: completion of
an agricultural chemical fertilizer
plant at Helena, Ark., by Arkla
Chemical Corp.; expansion of the
Foreman, Ark., cement plant by
Arkansas Cement Corp.; and con-
struction of a southern pine ply-
wood plant at Gurdon, Ark., by the
chemical subsidiary.
