Giants Battle
For Life With
Browns Today
By CHARLES MOREY
i > Sports Writer
It is an axiom in Sports as well
as show business that the road
company rarely is as good as the
performance before the home folks,
and yet —
The New York Giants have turn-
ed that ancient adage upside down
this season.
On the road they have been four-
star wonders. Before the home
folks they have been dismal failur-
es.
Which Giant team do you believe
the tearing terrors of three road
games or the fumbling, bumbling
misfits at home. ,
On the road they outpointed San
Francisco, St. Louis and Pitts-
burgh. At home they could only tie
Washington and they were upended
by St. Louis.
The Giants are face to face with
a crisis this week. They play the
Cleveland Browns in Cleveland and
a loss would drop them far enough
off the pace so that they may nc -
ver get back.
The Giants are running into a
blistering hot Cleveland team to-
day. The Browns have the most
diversified attack in the league.
They send Jimmy Brown over the
middle, Bohby Mitchell wide and
they have sharp-throwing Mill
Plum to do the passing
In addition to the worry over
stopping an attack like that, the
Giants have quarterback trouble.
Old . folks Charlie Conerl.v has been
sidelined with elbow trouble. But
he intends to go as far as he can
today. If Conerly can't make it. j
either George Shaw or Lee Gross-'
cup will get the call. But neither
had indicated in recent weeks that
he can do the job.
The Giants still have one thing
going for them, a crack defensive
unit that in the last couple of years
has indicated an ability to read
Paul Brown's mind. The Giants
have beaten the Browns five
straight times and the defensive
unit has been largely responsible

Why did Vice President Nixon Re-
