While, of course, navigation is one Gi mudshell and other commcice com-
of the main points to be considered It'S in there for connection with tin
between Cane Belt Railroad terminals, which
are located within the stream We
can then, with very slight expense,
open up the river as far as the raft,
and connect there with the Browie

shows up pretty well it will be given
full benefit of by the engineers in
making their recommendation for the
apportionment of the cost.
it is, of course, impossible to do
anything at this special session, fur-
ther than to get a full presentation
of tiie fads embraced in the R -cord,
and then l am willing for the matter
to rest for a little while, in order to
show what we can do in tlx way of
navigation as fur as the river is open-
ed up for that purpose. I hope, how-
ever. to get a favorable recommenda-
tion of the committee for the prelim-
inary survey when the regular ses-
sion convenes next winter, and if the
report is favorable for an actual sur
vey (which 1 hope we can secure)
then we will be aide to let the people
know just what the imurovenietit
would amount to, the probable cost,
and the extent to which flic United
States government will co-operate iu
the payment of this cost
