is a candidate for the- office of
county commissioner from pre-
cinct 2. Mr. Shurtleff is a. Hel'Cr

of Bowie.
The fihurtleff family moved to
Bowie in 1944 when Mr. Shurt-
kff operated the White Auto.
Store, which he sold in 1949 to
enter ranching.
Mr. Shurtleff states that he be-
lieves .his past experiences quali-
fies him to help handle the busi--
jiess of Montague county and any
phase of the work that the com-
missioners Ipok after. ,
He will issue a formal state-,
ment later. '
Joe 14. Overstreet has autho-
rized the News to announce that
he is a candidate for the office
of county commissioher, precinct
two. Joe’s announcement is meet-
ing with general satisfaction as
he demonstrated his ability as
tip office holder when he' served
Bowie recently as city commis-
sioner. He demonstrated that he
is in favor of progressive govern-
ment but at the same time a
business administration.
Joe .needs no introduction to
the .voters of this- precinct as he
is a native of precinct two. He
operated the Joe Overstreet Mo-
tor Co. here for a number of
years. At the present time he is
a director of the Bowie 'Chamber
of Commerce.
Mr. and Mrs. Overstreet live
at 510 Central street in Bowie.
He says that he will make a

LUTHER FRACTURES LEG
Robert “Cotton” Luther is con-
fined to the local hospital be-
cause of a compound fracture of
the right leg,
Friday afternoon near time to
finish work where he was paint-
ing a house, he fell from a scaf-
fold only about two and one half
feel high, turning his^pnkle 'and
breaking the leg in two places.
He was taken to a Wichija Falls
hospital" where hb. remained until
Sunday when an Owens-Brumley
ambulance returned him to the
local hospital.
Luther is the man, who estab-
lished Cotton’s Cafe, (which he
later sold. ..and went into the
painting and decorating business.
