Henrys Make Go

(Because the story below

cords an interesting achieve-

Under the caption "Family of
the the article given here ’gjac|
appeared jn the monthly publica-
tion of the Wise County Co-Op.
It says: •
Electricity really pays off for
Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Henry Of
Bowie. About three and a half
years ago they moved from Dal-
las to a farm about five miles
south of Bo\yie to operate a nur-
sery ‘and orchard.
Since the main business of the
orchard takes place in the Jail,
and having am ideal location; the
natural thing to do was to open
a fruit stand, which also provided
a market for the products of the
orchard. Of cours'e* tomatoes,
watermelons and- similar prod-
ucts were sold also.
From this grew the idea of a
watermelon ' garden ... so ta-
bles were arranged under a can-
opy and customers could buy cold
sliced watermelon as well as
whole ones to take with them.
But, where does electricity
come in? Well, the Henrys were
pretty smart. They gave the peo-
ple plenty of light to see their
place . . . flood lights, neon sign,
and bug-repellent lights over the
watermelon tables. An electric
bottle cooler was installed to give
thi1 customers cold drinks.
At first Mr. Henry tried cooling
his watermelons in an_old-fash-
ioned type ice box. But this
proved too expensive and not as
' efficient as he had hoped. So an
electric milk cooler was installed.
This method- was so successful
that cooling with ice was dis-
continued altogether and tv<o new
milk ...poolers were recently in--
stalled. Imagine three milk cool-
ers full of cold Watermelon ,. . .
that's a lot of good eating! Mr.
Henry feels that the milk cool-
ers are an investment instead of
an expense.
“Every time a block of ice
melted, that money was just
gone," la* said. "I will have the
milk coolers for many years and
they will more than pay for
themselves. They nrr so murh
more convenient and.npt so riiessy
to clean.'.1 _______________-
THe latrst addition to the coni-
tnercial equipment is an electric
“juke box" to provide music- fur
the customers as they enjoy their!
watermelon. •
