Maids, Matrons Meeting
The Maids and Matrons Club
Guest Day was held Wednesday
at the Women's Club r<5om with
members of all the women’s
clubs invited. Approximately 100
members and guests were pres-
ent.
Guests were welcomed by the
Maids and Matrons Club presi-
dent, Mrs. Bill Hodges.
Hostesses for this meeting were
Mmes. Prentice Crumpler, Bill
Koonce, L. H. Angove, J. D. Ker-
by and H. J. Deaver.
Mrs. Prentice Crumpler intro-
duced Mrs. J. D. Kerby who in-
I turn introduced the guest speak.--

a center-piece of silver and or-
chid colored arrangements.

A collison between a train on
the M.K &T. railroad, and a pick-
up truck, five miles west of No-
cona, Saturday, caused the death
of Luther Montgomery, 30, of
Nocona, driver of the pick-up.
It is said the train hit the pick-
up truck in the left door and
pushed the truck about 75 yards
along the track, with the truck
turned on its side.
It is reported that rescuers
worked forty five minutes trying
to free the man's ImMy from the
crushed truck.
Fred Johnson, of Denison, the
engineer, is reported to have said
that.his train was leaving a curve
when he saw the pick-up ap-
proaching the railroad crossing.
He applied the brakes, he said,
and sounded the air horn but the
pick up continued to the crossing.
No skid marks from the trucks’
tires were found, and officers
conjectured Montgomery d:<J not

Montgomery was riding ;dj/ti<^
in. the pick-up at the time of the
collision. M>[. Montgomery lived
three miles west of Nocona. He
is survived by bis wife, three chil-
dren, Paula, 10, Johnny 6, and
Luther Montgomery, jr., 2; his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Mont-
gomery, Nocona; a brother, J. H.
Montgomery, Ringgold; seven sis-
ters, Mrs. Jim McGrew, Arling-
ton; Mrs. Virgil Vineyard, Mrs.
DeKoy Priddy and Mrs. Donnie
Brooks, all of Nocona; Mrs. Joe
Monroe, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs.
Rony Grimsley, Higgins, and Mrs.
Ray Robinson, Arlington.

The month of November could
be called the birthday month al
the Bowie Convalescent home.
One nurse, the cook and three
patierfts have birthdays this
month.
Mrs. Olga Mae Riley will cele-
brate her birthday Nov. 15, Mrs.
Tom Childress will celebrate tier
birthday Nov. 18, and Uncle Will
Kosankie will be 92 Nov. 28.
There are 18 Women and men
in the home, the youngest being
64. Five in the home are in the
ninties;. eight in their eighties
and one lady will be 97 in De-
cember. Ages of 18 women and
men combined, total 1491 years.
In October “Uncle” Doe‘Mont
gorriery celebrated his 96th birth-
day. Those present to help him
celebrate were his daughter arid
husband, Mr. and Mrs. Dale But
ler of Levelland; Mrs. Frank Lane
and Mrs. Dwayne Lane and
daughters and Mr. and Mrs.
George Vinson of Bowie. One of1
his daughters, Mrs. Mamie Hick-
man, works at the home and she
baked Mr. Montgomery a birth- -
day cake. He also received several
gifts from his grandchildren in
California, Oklahoma and Tox-
