ARKANSAS WOMAN
OF SEVENTY SEVEN
GAINS 15 POUNDS
Mrs. Margaret Roister 221G Ches-
ter street Little Rock Ark. a resi-
dent of the city for forty-four years
and who has a wide circle of friends
and admirers is now an ardent cham-
pion of Tanlac. Following is her
statement:
“1 don’t believe anybody ever had
stomach trouble any worse than I did
and for that reason my recovery is
all the more remarkable as my age
wtfs naturally against me. Still more i
marvelous to me is the fact I should
gain fifteen pounds in wreight. 1
never heard of this happening to a
seventy-seven year old woman before
and shows what a wonderful medicine
Tanlac is.
“1 seem to have a new' lease on
life and 1 give Tanlac all the credit
for it. Wheq 1 began taking it 1
couldn't lift ray head from the pil
low My family and friends had giv-
en up hope. I too thought the end
waa not far off. I had awful nausea
all the time and such a pain in my
right side I could hardly stand it. I
was told I had stomach trouble and
alao neuritis. I began taking Tan-
lac as the last hope but to my joy
it proved to be just what 1 needed.
By he time I finished the first bottle
I was able to get up and walk around
the room. 1 kept taking it and kept
improving
“All my pains have disappeared
and I eat what I want and never have
any trouble with indigestion. In fact
I feel stronger and better than I have
in ten years. Tanlac is the talk of
our neighborhood since my remark-
able improvement and no wonder;
for in all my life I have never known
anything to equal it.”
Tanlac is sold in Brownsville by
the Eagle Pharmacy in Raymond*
ville by Ben S. Duffield and in Ly-
ford by the Magic Valley Mercantile
Company. Adv

! Minister Broken in Health
26 Years Ago Now Own-
| er Great Industry
HKXDKRSON. Ky June 1!. —
Twenty six years ago Rev. K. Mct'ul-
om. broken in health retired from
he ministry and bought sixty acre*
of land in Henderson county at wh:r
was considered a high price set ou-
a portion of the farm in apple tree.
ami began to study the subject
through government pamphlets.
From this beginning has grown an
industry that is rapidly being ex
panded and is becoming one of the
•»ost 'inoortant i n*his section and in
fact in the state. There are now be
ween 00000 and 75.000 trees in
Henderson county alone and in a pro
ductive year growers estimate that
the count’s pack will aggregate close
i to 100000 barels.
Not on!y has this section turned J
to the growing of fine apples but
a number of peach orchards have
been set out and this phase of the
fruit growing industry is being ex-
tended. William Stites of this city
president of the Kentucky State Hor-
ticultural Society says:
“The apple growing industry in
Henderson county was started when
Rev. E. MeCullom on account of
failing health retired from the mi-
nistry and moved t olienderson pur-
chasing a small farm of about 60
acres. At that time it was said that
he had paid too much money for
the farm and could never make a liv
ing on it. This was about 26 years
ago. For some years he and his fami-
ly probably found it an uphill under
taking but they were industrious
frugal livers and managed to get a
living selling eggs and products
from the farm while their young or
chard was growing.
At the time Mr. MeCullom plant
ed the orchard he knew nothing what
ever about horticultural work and
has stated to me a number of times
he was absolutely at sea as to what
methods to pursue not <»nlv as to cul-
tivation but as to handling the trees
and fruit when they came into bear-
ing. He got hold of some govern
mint pamphlets in some way and
managed to d ofairlv well from th •
beginning lie used a straight honest
pa»'k and customers who bought
from him once tame back for more
and as the sev n.l varieties of ap-
pVs rai> *d in thi'- neighborhood!
si meet: to have an exceptionally good j
quality. Mr. MeCullom soon built up'
a bu>iness that demanded his entire
output.
“In addition to 25 acres of wine**i
sap and some Ben Davis he later
planted about 12 acres of Staymen
Since that time he has en'arged his
winesap and cut down his Ben Dav-
is.
“Mr. MeCullom was so success-
ful that other orchards were started
and Henderson county now has some
60.000 to 75000 trees set out with
the largest part of them hearing. We
have had in cold storage as many as
40.000 barrels of apples from one
crop and with the large number of
trees whieh have recently come ir/o
i bearing a productive year will give
us a pack of close to 100000 bat
rels.
“In addition to the apple indus
*ry a number of peach orchards have
been planted and more are being
planted."
ing to the announcement recently of
'he athletic council.
