At 3 p.m. Sunday, local residents will view one of the results
of the $1,250,000 bond issue they passed last year to construct
new physical education facilities for the college and community.
President Hubert M. Dawson says that the building "gives
to Temple Junior college the finest health and physical education
facilities of any junior college in the Southwest."
Week-long festivities for the occasion will feature a contest
between the Olympic basketball team from Nationalist China and
the Leopardettes, TJC's women's basketball team. Other highlights
of the week include a handball game, a swimming exhibition and
a folk and modern dance workshop.
Sunday's events will begin with the introduction of guests
at the general assembly. Senator Ralph Yarborough, Congressman
Bob Poage and other governmental and local officials will be
recognized as well as the Board of Regents and TJC health and
physical education staff.
One announcement to be made at the opening ceremony
will be the donation of a $2,600 scoreboard from the Coca-Cola
Bottling company by owner-manager Charles Caughlin. A $600

sound system will also be presented by Theodore Floca and Ted
Floca, Jr., owner of Dr Pepper Bottling company.
Highlight of the week's events will be the Ya Tung girl's
basketball team from the Republic of China vs. Leopardettes at
7:30 p.m. Feb. 5. One-time Olympic champions, the Chinese team
will inevitably display skilled ball handling against the highly-
ranked Leopardettes.
TJC's Leopards will break-in the new basketball court when
they meet Wharton Junior college at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Exhibiting
their prowess, the University of Texas at Austin swimming team
will present a swimming and gymnastics show Tuesday.
The University of Texas at Austin handball team will sponsor
a training program for interested handball prospects on Thursday.
Closing the week-long dedication ceremonies will be a folk and
modern dance workshop sponsored by Texas Women's University
Feb. 4.
Students may tour the new building Wednesday from 1-7
p.m. Immediately following Sunday's program guests will tour
the $711,560 structure.
