4. To work to restore the first 1000 gallons of water
to the minimum rate. It is unfair to take from you,
and give to those who receive money, as a result
of the water and sewer rebate ordinance.
5. To work to reduce sewer rates for the same
reason.
6. To work to be the best City Commissioner Dis-
trict 1 has ever had. I will listen and act on issues
that concern the people of District 1 and Temple
as a whole. For effective and responsive action
vote for Travis W. Brett for City Commissioner in
District 1.
XIV championship tournament Leopardettes lost to Henderson County Lady Cardinals in a
two-out-of-three series. “Two veteran players will return next season along with nine new
freshman recruits and it is going to be an experience,” coach Marti Fuquay said. Top

ATTENTION VOTERS IN DISTRICT 1
MY PLANS IF ELECTED.
1. For no new
increase in
property tax-
es. Any pro-
posed new
taxes can be
off set, by us-
such
as
we
will have left
since gaso-
line has gone
down in
price. Which
is about $.50
a gallon. We
have allowed
for $1.50 a
gallon in our
City Budget.
THIS IS WHAT MY OPPONENT
HAS DONE FOR YOU.
1. Voted to increase residential garbage rates
from $2.50 to $5.75. This is an increase of over
150%, not the 12% as stated by my opponent.
He stated at the Humanities Council Forum that
I had been mis-informed. You pay the bills. Have
I?
2. Voted to increase sewer rates from $4.50 to
$6.00. This means the increase from the gar-
bage and sewer rates is costing each tax payer
$57.00 a year more. This is a sneaky way of
taxing us.
3. Voted to take away the first 1000 gallons of
water, at the minimum rate. Who does this
benefit? The people who hold an interest in
developments, will receive 60% of the increase
from the water and sewer rates, due to the water
and sewer rebate ordinance.
4. Voted to retain the personal property tax, such
as on our automobiles.
5. Has denied our District 1 the right to a major
park with a pool, that had been approved by the
Texas Park and Wildlife Dept. Our City Commis-
sioners had voted for the purchase of property
for this project. This can be confirmed by an
article written by Susie Phillips which appeared
in the Temple Telegram dated Dec. 19, 1980.
See quote below from that article.
Buying Tract
The commission then authorized Knight to
begin negotiations to buy a 30-acre tract of land
across from Lamar Middle School. He also was
authorized to begin condemnation proceed-
ings, if necessary.
, This has denied the young people of District 1 a
nice place to take their children, like other Districts
have. Isn’t it time to put a stop to issues that don’t
represent our side of town fairly?
Any one needing a ride to vote call 778-0298.
PoL Adv. paid by Travis W. Brett Rt.4 Box 27, Temple, Texas 76501
This savingswill be due to lowergasoline prices.
2. Work to eliminate the personal property tax,,
such as on our automobiles. Waco has already
done this. Why can’t we?
3. To work to reduce the garage rate. It is inflation-
ary at the present rate.
