Answer To "Home-Builder" B EMf
TOME-BUILDER The combination

sr&CtlcaL crovinir fn favor with
t-acn year. Architects La.e been aa
xncatinr it for a long1 time for the
Fnaii anartment or "the coxy nest
such as we are considering herewith.
It can easily be seen how a whole
room which Is used hut an hoar or
two each day. Is an extravagance in
a small home since no matter how
well furnished as soon as the meal
is cleared it becomes merely a pas-
sageway nsoally from kitchen to the
more livable parts of the house.
It affords me much pleasure to pass
along these few suggestions in what
appears to be a very attractive ar-
rangement. I asrres with you that to
purchase only the best and do with
in this combination room will
assist materially. The three-piece
tapestry suite Is excellent as it shows
the room will be comfortable. With
such a choice yon will have to sub-
ordinate the idea of dininj: there.
For instance the table for eating
should be either.a gate-ler which can
be closed and pushed to one side or
if sou prefer a regular library table
though these gate-leg tables are
very charming kept open all the time

for general use: or you can have
combination table taken from other
periods such as the stretcher base
Jacobean table that 2mls two short
leaves on each side which when
dropped makes the table like the
modern library table. The conven-
tional dining room table would be
too cumbrous to combine with a Itv-
ine: room set such as too clan to use.
The formal straight backed dining
cnair snoaia oe kept poshed back into
unused spaces where they do not in-
trude themselves when not in use.
If you feel that yon must purchase
the whole set of them at this time
keep some of them out of the room
where they will be handy enough to
carry them In when needed. The
sideboard will harmonised with the
living room furnishings but It can
be eliminated without any loss to the
room. If it Is included it should be
kept as free as possible of silver or
other reminders of the dining room.
There are bautlful copies ef the old
English in dining room furniture and
this American walnut Is well suited
to it. The Sheraton and Adams pieces
look better in mahogany. If you are
ordering your tapestry set to be made
it is well to have one of the arm
chairs suited to women or smaller
men. These sets are usually planned
for- large people and nothing but an
abundance of pillows will make them
comfortable for even the average
sized woman.
