Promise Crowded Calendar
For the Week of New Year
One of the mo6t elaborate dances ever held at the Country club was
to be a feature of holiday festivities in Brownsville on Saturday eve-
ning. The club was especially decorated for the occasion and a large
number of private parties were arranged for the dinner.
Continuing events of the season the annual Los Amig06 dance to be
given at El Jardln hotel is being
anticipated with much Interest as
the outstanding affair of New Year s
Eve and the greater part of the

Mrs. J. H. Downs was hostess to
the Merry Matrons club this week
at tne San Roman clubhouse. The
entertainment took the form of a
Christmas party for members and
their husbands
Christmas gifts were exchanged
by about thirty guests at the party.
Bridge was the diversion for the
evening Mrs. Dobson making high
score for the women and Lavern
Bohlen for the men. The guest
award was presented to Mrs. Ford
Lockett and Mrs. Kenneth Crowe
was lucky in the cut.
Besides club members and their
husbamls. the following were pre-

The next club meeting will be at

MERCEDES Dec. 27.—Wedding
bells mingled with Christmas bells
on Christmas morning uniting In
marriage Miss Lennle Frederick of
Bartlett and Guy Dunson of this
city at the home of the bride-
groom’s mother in Mercedes at
eleven o’clock.
The beautiful ring ceremony was
performed by the Rev. C. E. Blud-
worth pastor of the First Meth-
odist church. The bride was at-
tended by her sister Miss Berenice
Frederick of Bartlett while Jack
Dunson of this city brother of the
groom acted as best man.
Poinsett ias and red radiance
roses formed floral adornment for
the house accentuating the yule-
[ tide season. A beautifully decorated
Christmas tree graced one corner
of the room where the marriage
ritas were read.
Reside In Mercedes
The bride's costume was of pow-
der blue flat crepe with hat to
match. She carried a shower bou-
quet of KUlarney roses.
The wedding party entered to
the strains of Lohengrin's wedding
March played by Mrs. Ralph Dun-
son on the violin accompanied by
Mrs. T. Rippant on the piano.
A reception was held for a num-
ber of guests following the cere-
mony. with the bnde cutting the
bride s cake.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs Jim Allen of Eartlett.
both of whom were preoent at the
wedding.
After a honeymoon to points
north Mr. and Mrs. Dunson will
be at home to their friends in
Mercedes.

FOR MRS. JOHNSON
Mrs. Fred Johnson was hostess
at a lovely shower for Mrs. Bert
Johnson one afternoon during the
past week at her home on Virginia
Avenue. There were many lovely

tree with Mrs. Wallace Alien act-

Open Xmas
Day
Open house on Christmas day-
brought the holiday spirit and
multitudes of callers to many
Brownsville homes. One of the de-
lightful hospitalities of the season
was that of Mr. and Mrs. George
K. Aziz who during the day greet-
ed more than a hundred friends.
Their home was beautifully dec-
orated In the Christmas spirit
with polnsettlas roses and red
candles used in profusion in all the
rooms. The table in the dining
room from which Christmas
daintjps were served was especially
attractive with a bower of fern
over it and icicles sparkling on
the comers. A beautiful lace cover
added to the charm of the setting.
The large Christmas tree in the
house bore gifts for the children of
the visitors while outside prettily
deaorated trees carried out the idea
and added charm to the entrance.

Christian Endeavor societies of the

evening for a rally which was at-
tended by about sixty delegates from
the various organizations.
A talk by Rev. H. J. Howard

for the evening. Talks were also
given by officers and members of

times and has proved herself a
highly talented and thoroughly
competent musician.

is a teacher in the Conservatory

In a beautiful setting bright with the rich shades of poinsettiaa and

the Rev. and Mrs. E. P. Day. became the bride of Mr. A. J. Laughlin at
one-thirty Friday afternoon.
The ceremony was solemnized in the First Presbyterian church of

with a buffet supper on Thursday
evening following the rehearsal.
The hall in which the guests
were greeted by Judge and Mrs
Taylor presented a festive ap-
pearance. with a huge Christmas
tree beautifully decorated and
lighted as its central feature.
In the living room poinsettias
and red tapers carried out the
chosen theme.
The dmiag room where supper
was served smartly featured the
bridal idea with a miniature bridal
party in white and pastel shades
as the centerpiece. The dainty
shades blended charmingly with
the red taners useJ on the table.
On the buffet tapers and carna-

inc skirt. Orange blossoms held her ^
! veil arranged in cap style and she
carried a shower bouquet of white
roses. Her only ornament was a
string of pearls.
Reception
Mbs Tacy Boory maid of hon-
or wore maroon velvet with acces-
soiies to match; Miss Annie Tucker
was gowned in brown velvet and
Miss Frances Laughlln sister of the
groom in black velvet with white
nai and long wtute gloves. Gowns
' 01 tile bridesmaids acre all in after-
noon style with accessories match-
ing. and each ot the bridesmaids
carried a bouquet of red roses.
Robert Stewart of Lockhart serv-
ed as best man and Charles Day.
Fritz Ball and Jack Laughlln as
ushers.
Little Clyde Tandy. Jr. wearing a
suit of black velvet with white satin
blouse carried the ring in the heart
of a red rose. Mary Nell Skelton
and Mary Frances Knope in dainty
frocks of white crepe vire flower
girls.
Following the roremony a recep-
tion was held at the home of the
bride’s parents. Here the holiday
note again appeared in the poinset-
tias roses and red tapers which re-
peated the decorative style used in
the church and red lights cast a
cozy glow over the scene.
In the dining room where the
gorgeous bride’s cake occupied the
central place red tapers in silver
holders burned on the table and on
