For Meeting
Fifteen members of the Browns-
ville Christian Endeavor Society are
in San Antonio attending the
state Christian Endeavor conven-
tion which will continue through
Sunday. The local delegates left
Thursday morning for San Anto-
nio. traveling in two trucks which
carried the Valley delegation of
about fifty young people.
In San Antonio the Valley
representation was scheduled to
take part In a special parade.
Included In the Brownsville de-
legation are Misses Velma Parker.

Installation Of
Officers Held
An impressive installation service
for the newly elected officers of
the Woman's Missionary Society of
the Central Christian church was
held Monday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. H. C. Groom.
Miss Bettle Hopper acting ss
toast mistress voiced the apprecia-
tion of the society to the outgoing
officers and presented Mrs. W. A.
Velten retiring president with a
tlitlful bouquet of pink rosebuds
as an expression of the members’
gx tltude for her leadership
throughout the year.
Mrs. R. L. 8tell served as install-
ing officer. The ceremony opened
with a solo. "In the Garden" sung
by Mrs. Marjorie Holland. Mrs.
Velten read the names of the new
officers as follows Mrs. H. C.
Groom president; Mrs. J. M.
George vice president; Mrs. C. E.
Shealer. secretary; and Mrs. Troy
Porter treasurer. Each was given
an unllghted candle and. as she re-
ceived her charge placed the light-
ed taper in a 'circle around a beau-
tiful bowl of flowers which repre-
sented the Missionary Society. A
beautiful floral service was given
each officer after which her pledge
was given to the society.
The lovely symbolic service clos-
ed with a prayer.
In the late afternoon a delectable
buffet luncheon was served to
twenty members and guests. The
rooms were decorated with basket*
of lovely pink rosebuds The table
was laid with a lace cloth and held
a centerpiece of pink rosebuds in a
silver bowl flanked by tall tapers
m silver holders.
Meetings of the Missionary So-
ciety are held regularly the second
Monday of each month.

Of Club Program
The home of Mrs. Louis Rank
was beautifully decorated with

noon when she was hostess to mem-
ber* of El Jardin Heights Social
club. Marigolds gladioli roses and
queen's wreath were placed in at-
tractive arrangements about the
home.
Because of the small attendance
of members start of the club’s
study of Texas was postponed and
the afternoon was passed in con-
versation. In the late afternoon
the hostess passed several kinds
of sandwiches with iced drinks
The next meeting will be held
in four weeks at the home of Mrs
E J. Wells when a full attendance
of members is expected and when
the club’s study program will be

and Mrs. Glenn Bartlett whose
marrtaae to Gerald Pry of Kings-
ville will take place this month was
honoree at a pretty courtesy Wed-
nesday afternoon when Miss Edna
1 Mae Klmmell entertained in her
honor.
The attractive affair took the
form of a bridal shower and was
made distinctive through the fea-
turing of a pink and green color
theme. Quantities of pink rosebuds
mingled with fern adorned the re-
ception rooms. Guests contributed
to the entertainment by writing
household and happiness hints to
the bride-elect which she later read.
Presentation of the gifts w-as made
by the hostess when she placed
a decorated table laden with beau-
tifully wrapped packages before the
honoree.
Refreshment plates holding a
dainty salad course and tea were
passed to the guest* by the hostess

stein regent for the chapter.
The breakfast table was laid
with cover| in gold color with fruit
forming the centerpiece At each
place was a corsage of red verbena
blue flax and white phlox mingled
with fern. Place cards bore minia-
ture replicas of the United State*
shield.
Following the breakfast a round
table was held and each woman
present made an interesting minute
talk on the flag. The pledge to the
flag was given at the close of the
meeting.
Similar meeting* were held by
Lt Thomas Barlow members in
San Benito. Harlingen and Mer-
cedes. The D. A. R. chapter for a
number of years has held unusual
celebrations in observance of Flag
Day A patriotic society the D. A.
R. organization represented by its
members regards the flag as being
symbolic of all that America stands
for.

Is Appointed
Miss Julia O'Brien has been ad-
) vised of her appointment to mem-
bership bn the Texas Centennial
Board for Cameron county. W. H.
j Mayes Austin chairman of the
Texa* Centennial Board has noti-
! fied Miss O'Brien of her appoint-
ment.
Miss O'Bnen has been active in
several projects of state-wide in-
terest and is particularly known for
her leadership in activities of Busi-
ness and Proles'ional club women
not only in the Valley and this dis-
trict but in meetings and activities
sponsored by the stare organization.

and Mrs Frank Barber announce
the engagement and approaching
marriage of their daughter. Mar-
garet to Eugene McCabe.
The bride-to-be is a member of
I the class of '30. graduating from
„the San Benito high school. She is
now employed by the Magnolia
Petroleum Company at Rio Hondo.
She has resided In the San Benito
community since earty childhood
removing here with her parents
from Halsttad Pa.
Mr. McCabe is the son of Mr and
Mrs. Frank McCabe. He attended
the Rio Hondo schools and later
graduated from St. Edwards Uni-
versity at Austin He is connected
with the Yeoman and McCabe Pro-
duce company at Rio Hondo.

with tiny satin covered buttons ac-
centuating the smart simplicity of
the latest mode in bridal gowms. A
vcf of sheer tulle caught to the

Following the dance the young
couple left by automobile for Mont-
