Confession and here’s what
he will tell you: Sin is an offense
against God, it must be forgiven
by God. It is God, not man, who
determines how forgiveness must
be obtained. Christ plainly pointed
this out when He empowered His
Apostles and their successors to for-
give sins or to refuse forgiveness.
"Whose sins you shall forgive,”
Gbrist said, "they are forgiven
them; whose sins you shall retain,
they are retained.” (John20:21-23).
Thus Christ authorized the Apos-
tles, and their successors, to pardon
or to deny pardon as they judged
the sinner worthy or unworthy. To
do this they had to know what'they
were forgiving ... the secret dis-
positions of the sinner... his sor-
row and willingness to repair the
wrong done to his neighbor by his
sins. Who could make this known
but the sinner himself—and what
is this but Confession?
"But Confession—the Sacrament
of Penance — is only one of the
seven Sacraments Christ left in His
Church. Yes, seven—no more and
no less! Christ’s religion is not
merely a message to be accepted,

“May I bring the gang home after
school, Mother?" asks Mary.
“But I’m having my bridge club
this afternoon, dear,” Mother replies.
In a one-living-room-home, this sit-
uation frequently arises. There’s
just not room for parents and child-
ren to entertain at the same time. Or
is there?
New double duty ideas in home
furnishings present a solution. Those
old time bedrooms that are jut so
much waste space except at night
when they’re used for sleeping, can
be transformed into daytime recrea-
tion rooms. Besides settling the
question of who’s going to entertain
whom when, a combination bed liv-
ing room is an excellent spot for the
homework, reading, handicrafting
and music appreciation. Dad and the

For many Texas kids, this is back
to school week again. Some returned
to the classrooms earlier, but whe-
ther it was this week or last, mothers
of school age children have to figure
out what to clothe their youngsters
in.
Nena Roberson, associate exten-
sion clothing specialist of Texas A.
and M. College, says the clothing
problem is just as big for mothers of
little tykes not yet in school.
Often, Mother picks out clothes for
the kids because she takes a fancy
to the little red jacke or the yellow
striped dress. It’s going to be the
children that wear the clothing/,, so it
should be picked out to meet their
needs.
Comfort, freedom of movement, al-
lowance for growth and attractive-
ness are points to remember when
buying slacks, shirts or dresses for
the children. Buy clothes that fit well
and be sure they aren’t too tight. Al-
I low for plenty of movement. Maybe
the boys play football with the gang
after school. Perhaps the little girl
goes skating with her friends. What-
ever they do, they’ll need clothing
that gives them freedom of move-
ment-and still isn’t too loose.
The clothing should also allow for
I growth, too. Five to eight inches for
hems in dresses and five to six inches
on the tails of boy’s shirts should be
left on so there will be room for
lengthening as the children grow.

is shared by two youngsters, twin
studio beds placed at right angles
in a corner, in opposite corners or
end to end against an unbroken wall
will work out very nicely and provide
double lounging space. This adds an
effect of spaciousness by leaving the
center of the room free. -
The slip-cover that comes in two
two pieces is the most practical. The
dust ruffle part fits between the
matress and the spring and the cap
fits snugly over the matress and the
bed clothes. Thus, when the cap is
removed at night, the dust ruffle
remains and gives the bed a finished
appearance/. In most cases, even a
small bedroom is large enough to
accomodate avin beds of this type
in one of the three arrangements
previously mentioned and still leave
room for other furnishings and ac-
tivitis.
For example, drawer cheScs and a
design can be grouped on the closet
wall. If there isn’t quite enough room
for the dressing table, hanig v good
sized mirror on the inside/ of the
closet door and attach a drop leaf On
hinges just below it. This arrange-
ment 'doubles beautifully for a dress-
ing table and saves space.
Then, a third wall can be devoted
to a desk, shelves and cabinets, re-
cordings, knick-knacks, games and
hobby equipment. This need not be an
expensive set-up. If there’s any extra
room, add an easy chair. There/ should
be a card table handy, too.
A bedroom decorated in this fa-
shion doesn’t look like a bedroom at
all—it looks like the youngster’s own
private living room, with all the n--
tools.—Tom W. Carpenter
