given at the Baptist Missionary so-
rtetv was that of Tuesday afternoon
when Mrs J. D Patrick mission
chairman presented in miniature
the womans section of the South-
ern Baptist Convention held in 8t
Louis. Missouri a few weeks ago.
Members of the society were met
at the door by ushers and pages
who presented to each a regular
convention badge in orchid and

McALLEN July 25.— Over ninety
friends and members of the family
called to congratulate Mr. and Mrs.
William R. Jackson Wednesday eve-
ning upon the celebration of their
golden wedding anniversary with a
reception between the hours of 8
and 10 o’clock at their home near
McAllen. The honored couple were
remembered with many telegrams
gifts and bouquets of beautiful flow-
ers from friends both in ttaa Val-
ley and in San Antonio other parts
of Texas and in their former home
state of Iowa.
Mrs. Jackson the bride of fifty
years ago wore a grey lace gown
over shell pink taffeta and shoulder
corsa s of pink roses tied with gold
ribbon. Misses Annabel Adam. Lu-
cille Ehlinger. Ruby Jackson and
Mrs Ralph Davis of Donna who
assisted in the serving were all at-
tired in pretty summer evening
frocks of the pastel shades.
Mrs. W. R. Jackson a daughter-
in-law. received the ituests while
Mrs. Norman C. Fen ell was in
charge of the guest book. Others
assisting in the hospitality were
Mrs. Harold E. Brehm. a daughter.
Mrs. Orover C. Ehlinger. Mrs. John
Adam And Mrs. Harley E Jackson
and Mrs. Paul Jackson daughter-
in-law of the honored couple.
An interesting program arranged
by Mrs C O. Bennett consisted of
the following selections: musical
reading. Miss Lucille Eh linger with
Miss Annabel Adam at the piano;
vocal solos by Miss Electa Alley
and John Smith violin solo. Miss
Adam with Miss Maurine Zach-
rnan as pianist; and vocal selection.

CENTENNIAL AFFAIR
One of the most interesting of
the Centennial parties was the Rus-
sian affair enjoyed Wednesday
morning at the home of Mrs. Chas
J. Holland on North Broadway with
Mrs. R. M 8chmuck and daughter
Miss Laura Schmuck of Dallas. Mrs j
W. L Cook. Mrs William W Holmes
and Mrs Holland as hostesses.
Ads Virginia Holmes attired in
a Russian child's costune greeted
the guests. Miss flchmuck wore an
embroidered Russian blouse and a
skirt while Mrs Holland *as attired
in a Russian whit* liner dress. All
of the clothing was brought from
Russia by Mrs. Holland a resident
of that country for three years.
Mrs. Holland gave a talk on
Russia confining her remarks to
a description of the lives of the
Americans who were in Russia to
assist In the five year plan and the
living conditions of the Russians
wtlh whom they came in contact.
Mrs. Holland displayed many of the
articles of historical Interest which
.*he had brought with her from
Russia some of which had belong-
ed to the late Tzar and his imme-
mediate family. Other objects on
on exhibition were liners dishes
and glassware used by rhe royal
family.
Refreshments of punch and cook
tes were served from a taoble laid
with an embroidered Russian cloth
while the glassware and the china
used by the guests belonged to the
late Grand Duke Nicholas. Guests

A Babb They’ came to the Rio
Grande Valley nineteen years ago
from 8cranton Iowa and estab-
lished a homestead on the road
that now bears their name Jackson
road east of McAllen. For a while
they resided In McA'.len later mov-
ing to their present home Their
seven sons and daughters are Har-
ley F. JacksonA McAllen; Mrs Roy
Bellcock Cooper. Iowa; Walter E
Jackson. McAllen; Irvin R. Jack-
son. McAllen; Paul Jackson. McAl-
len; Dr. Ruth Jackson Dallas and

DALE SNOWDEN HONORED
Free “educational advantages"
were offered a group of thirty-five
young people when members of the
Christian and Missionary Alliance
entertained Tuesday evening with
a farewell compliment for Dale
Snowden who left Thursday night
for San Diego. California after a
furlough from the U. 8. Navy.
The party which was held at the
home of the Rev. and Mrs. R. L
Francisco featured a collegiate at-
mosphere. the guests being treated
to a college education at no ex-
pense. The Idea was cleverly car-
ried out tn the appointment* and
in the games under the direction
of Miss Doris McGinnis.
The Rev. Francisco as president
of the college made a formal wel-
come address Miss McOlnnls was
dean of women; Jack Roberts dean
of men; Miss Geneva Gill registrar;
and Miss Mary Ray. cashier These
officials also served as members of
the faculty.
Games of art In advertising ad-
ulations and final exams were con-
vanced mathematics. English psy-
chology. physical education club In-
cluded by the awarding of diplomas
for the degree of Nit-wit to all those
present.
SWIMMING PARTY
A swimming party and water-
melon feast for the Christian En-
deavor societies of Hidalgo county
will be staged by the McAllen C. E
Society Monday. July 27. at Cas-
cade pool according to plans made
at a meeting of the society Tues-
day evening at the First Christian
church with Rose Whittenburg
president in charge.
The guests will meet at the Mc-
Allen Christian church at 7 p. m
from where they will go to the
swimming pool In a body. Members
of the local society will have charge
of the church services next Sun-
day night. Present for the meeting
