Bless you, we start to die as soon as we’re bom. Of
course we do. What is death, anyway? Death is decay.
That’s what it is. To decay is to die.
And one of the surest ways to prevent decay is to make
a community perfectly sanitary. If every township in
every county in every one of our forty-eight states had
Al sanitation, death rates would grow less and less.
Here are a few figures for thought.
More than 250,000 people die every year in America be-
cause of the lack of sanitation. And for the same rea-
son twenty times as many people are sick abed from
six to ten weeks every year.
The unsanitary out-door toilet breeds eighty-five per cent
of typhoid cases in the country. A bath room in a home
lowers the death rates of babies more than half. Which
is cheapest—a well plumbed home, a good bath room, a
safe disposal of sewerage and a protected water supply
or sickness, decay and death? There are the facts, and
you can answer the question for yourself.
