Lice cost U.S. cattlemen more
than $50 million annually, so it’s
important to control them, says
Bill Ruth, county entomologist
with the Texas Agricultural Ex-
tension Service.
Lice begin to reproduce rapdily
with the onset of cool weather, so
peak populations on cattle occur
in late winter and early spring.
Uncontrolled-lice can soon infest a
walks.
Snow shoveling can be good for
you, if you use common sense.
Exercise and fresh air in, the
winter are important to maintain-
ing health. Just don’t overdo it.

The winter snows are here again,
and millions of householders are
faced once more with clearing
walks and driveways.
Snow shoveling requires a lot of
energy and muscle. Pushing a
stalled auto out of a drift even
more demanding.

spray or dip will kill any lice
hatching from eggs that were laid
prior to the first spraying. When J
spraying, use a high pressure (250
pounds per square inch) and
thoroughly wet animals to the
skin.
For a list of effective insecticides
for controlling lice, Mr. Ruth
suggests that cattlement obtain a
copy of “Suggestions for Controll-
ing External Parasites on Live-
stock and Poultry” at the county
Extension office.
Check the label on the insecticide
container and pay particular at-
tention to warnings, restrictions
and waiting periods, especially if
some of the cattle are being
prepared for slaughter.

Quite a large number of citizens in our nation seem to feel . .
perfectly free to disobey any laws with which they happen
not to agree. Early Christians instead, were taught to
pray for their rulers (I Tim. 2:1-3), honor the King (I Pet.
2:17), pay taxes (Matt. 22:21), and obey the laws which
governed them (Rom. 13:1-7). Although the early
Christians lived in the midst of the decedent, tyrannical,
festering Roman Empire, they were admonished to seek
the welfare of the very ones who persecuted them! Only
when Caesar’s law would have caused one to break God’s
law, was a Christian to refuse obedience (Acts 5:29).
Rather than lead a protest movement down Rome’s main
street, followers of Jesus taught and lived, preached and
practiced the enriching principles of the gospel of peace.
In the letters of Jude and II Peter we learn that only
unprincipled people “rail against rulers”. Even Michael,
the archangel, turned the chastisement of Satan over to
God. God’s people have not time for vengenance; they
know that God will recompense for both good and evil
(Deut. 32:35). Although the days of Jesus were plagued
with governmental corruption, opposition, arid intrigue
by the Herods and Caesars, never once did our Saviour try
to overthrow- the government. He was not a leader of
insurrection. He came to conquer sin, not the Romans
(Mark 11). The very nature of Christianity is to permeate
the whole atmosphere of life, not by forced legislation, but
by faithful living!
