It just took a pencil, a paper and a little figuring
to show one woman that she took 256,743 needless steps
in a year all because of the inconvenient arrangement of
the kitchen. This only goes to show that the woman of
the house should insist on proper planning when the
question of the new home comes up for consideration.
Nine out of ten it is the woman who suffers most
from poor home planning.
Let us show you how we can be of help to you

Former Senator Bailey’s suc-

nomination for Governor has as-
tounded his opponents, and even
surprised his friends. The latter
had expected that he might be a
low second in the July primary
election and thereby win a place
in the run-off primary; but they
were not enthusiastic enough to
be prepared for the unexpected
landslide that came his way. As
for his opponents, they have been
shocked to near speechlessness.
All this shows unmistakably, that
the former Senator has not lost
his hold on the affections and
the confidence of Texans, as
many believed, or professed to
believe he had done. Far from
it. Instead, he is without ques-
tion, the most popular public

What then is its object and ef
feet? Clearly to disfranchise the
minority, or to force them to ac-
peachable integrity proven that
we can depend upon the fulfiil-
ment of his promise.
Perhaps no other man's rec-
ord guarantees the fulfillment of
his promise to continue to pro-
gress away from the principles of
democracy into the destruction of
state lights, and a continuation
of reckless extravagance in the
misuse of the peoples money.
Make your choice. I choose •Jo-
seph Weldon Bailey, the moral
and intellectual peer of any man
who has ever been in public life,
and the political peer of any
Democrat in Texas or elsewhere.
Now what about you Demo-
crats, thousands and tens of
thousands of you, who stayed out
of the recent primaries, sulking
in your tents because you were
afraid the principles for which
“election" <>r a it for whatever the application
than any other man to make a
high-class Governor. Everybody
knows that kind of a governor
is needed. The State has not had
a big Governor in many years.
It never has had as big a Gover-
nor as Bailey would make. And
the splendid race he made in the
elec1 on, p ictically
asures his nomination in the Au-
gust run-off.
So, with all those things con-
sidered, The Republic is unalter-
ably of the opinion, that the Re-
publicans can not do a greater
service to their State than to
help elect Bailey. They can do
this without any greater sacrifice
of party fealty than is common
in every election. Every two
years, a majority of Texas Re
publicans vote for one or more
Democratic candidates; and
never can they be mon justified
in such action than in voting for
Bailey. The Republic wants it
distinctly understood, that in
making this recommendation
there is not the slightest sugges-
tion of abandoning the Repub-
lican party, or the Regular Re-
publican ticket. The Republic it-
self never will forsake the party
or its principles, and it hopes
