University officials are right in
not saying whether the tradition
will continue as they look into
the cause of the collapse, but it
must in order to preserve an
experience that is truly unique
for A&M’s students. And should
university officials decide to con-
tinue this tradition, they will
have to take precautions that
must ensure no other tragedy to
this degree will happen ever
around and focus that energy
on the system behind those
models and onto the people
who put them there.
Don’t buy the magazines
that feature models of unreal-
istic standards and propor-
perils of intimacy without love and not
taking full responsibility for one’s
actions.
Perhaps if all the energy put into
protesting abortion was fused into a posi-
tive effort of educating the public, actual
progress could be made. If there is so
aged from doing so.
The self worth of women
today depends too much on
the physical appearance of

have taken away the impor-
tance of women’s thoughts
and placed an overwhelming
importance on women’s bod-
ies.

ages, girls are taught that

that it is not important to

instead on the social problems in this
country, which have led to an increase in
abortions and violent crimes among the
young? ;
Instead of holding candlelight vigils
for the victims, why don’t various reli-
gious organizations target and focus their

Curiosity led me to an abortion clinic
in Dallas where' I went in and asked one
of the nurses a couple of questions. She
told me that the average age for women
who come in for the procedure is between
15 and 25. She went on to say that usual-
ly the women are alone or have come in

their own cycle of self depre-

And now, unfortunately, more
standards need to be imposed to
ensure the safety of those who
work on constructing the pile.

I am writing in response to

The pubic display of
bulimic behavior was promot-

women “losing” the crown
