night as Allen continued to climb
the ladder of the district cham-

Alien’s 56 points and blocked
several shots as well as playing
good defense.
Case in point. Commerce’s
leading scorer is 6-4. He failed to
score a point and fouled out of the
game early in the fourth quarter.
While defense was the Eagles
strong point Allen’s offense
wasn’t consistent.

It was a disappointing loss for
the Allen Eagles girls. Only 2
points made the difference in win-
ning and losing Friday’s district
game at Quinlan.
Allen played close throughout
the contest, actually leading at
one point, but came up on the
short end of a 30-28 score.
Coach Rick Clements blamed
the victory on one thing, bad
shooting.
“We shot real poor, only 13 of
68 (field goals) for 19 percent from
the field.”
But he pointed out a bright
“The 13 people on the Allen
Sports Association board or
directors are not trying to run
sports in Allen. What we try to do
is provide the best activities we
can to young people in the com-

That’s how ASA President
Robert Prince responded to
allegations he has heard that the
board was prejudiced.

Coach Steve King’s group of
Allen JV basketballers ran their
record to 15-0 by defeating Com-
merce in district action, 56-34.
Allen dominated the contest
against the Tigers, who were
previously unbeaten in District
11-AAA.
“I feel like our kids did a great
job in determining the tempo of
this game,” said King. “The kids
handled their (Commmerce) full
court press well and we were able
to get the ball inside to Jody
(Reeves) all night.”

“We may have to combine some
of the age groups.”
Those seventh grade boys and I
girls interested will be able to
sign up Saturday, February 14, at
the Allen Middle School cafeteria
from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Soccer was offered to seventh |
graders in the fall of 1980. But on-
ly 9 boys signed up—far short of
the required number.
“Anytime someone in the com-
munity has some kind of input for
the board,” says Prince, “we
welcome it.”
Equally fine rates for qualified

everyone.”
Rocky Emery led scoring for
the Eagles with 24 points while
Mark Puckett picked up 11
points.
The pair tied for the rebound
lead with 9 each while Mike
Douglas picked up 5 rebounds.
But the coach had praise for
others as well saying “Derek
Short, Joey McCulloch and Troy
Taylor did a great job of running
the offense.
“We got our running game go-
ing in the first half and did a good
job of controlling the boards, out-
rebounding them 43-25.
“Everyone played well and con-
tributed to the victory.”

Allen’s Eagles cruised to
another district basketball vic-
tory Friday night by blasting
Quinlan 63-42.
The victory was Allen’s third in
4 district starts and gave the
Eagles a 19-6 overall season
record.
It was a game in which Coach
Steve Williams’ Eagles scored
field goals on 51 percent of their
shots and 64 percent of the time
they shot free throws.
