Allen Rotary Club members
recently heard a presentation by
Clare T. Miller, regional coor-
dinator fo DARE, concerning
drug problems and particularly
the enormity of the marijuana
problem.
DARE is an action arm of
Gov. Bill Clements’ Texans’
War on Drugs Committee which
is chaired by H. Ross Perot.
The Allen High School HECE
(Home Economics Cooperative
Education) students visited the
South Dallas Day Care Center
Friday, bringing donations from
the Allen community for the
children and entertaining them
with a Christmas party.
HECE advisor Mrs. Patsy
Kole coordinated the festive
event.

Beginning January 1, 1982, new
Federal regulations will allow you to
deposit as much as $2,000 a year into an
Allen State Bank Individual Retirement
Account (IRA) which, if it earns a 12%
average interest rate,* can grow to
$1,161,136.61 in thirty-five years! (See
chart below.)
This is possible because you won’t be
required to pay income taxes on the
money your deposit or the daily com-
pounded interest it earns until you
withdraw it at retirement when you pro-
bably will be in a lower tax bracket.
Until now, IRAs have been available
only to workers not covered by an
employee pension or profit-sharing
plan. Next year, however, any wage
earner can have an IRA and will be per-
mitted to deposit into it as much as
$2,000 annually ($2,250 if a spouse is
not employed), deduct it from taxable in-
come, earn top CD interest rates and
defer all taxes on principal and interest
until withdrawal. If both husband and
wife are employed, each can establish a
separate IRA.
Should you not have $2,000 to invest
in any one year, you can borrow it from
the bank, subject to its credit re-
quirements.
