and is the King of light draft machines. The harvest season is ne?r at hand and you should not fail to
examine the many merits of the Deering Binder before placing your order for a machine. Our stock of Cul-
tivators was never more complete than it is this season. We are showi/ig eight styles of these machines.
The Elk and Lucky Jim balance frame styles are especially popular. Come and inspect them. We are
headquarters for Shelf and Heavy Hardware and Stoves. Make our store your headquarters when in town.

Big Land Trade.
C. W. and J. R. McFarling of
Hereford, Texas have made quite a
purchase of land south of town.
They secured two sections adjoining
from the W. & N. W. Railway and
one section from A. J. Fires, They
also leased two sections from Mr.
Fires. The land is about three
miles from town. While the greater
part is rough there is lots of tillable
l^nds to be found on the purchase.
The section purchased from Mr.
Fires contains at least four hundred
acres of good farm lands, and we
understand these gentlemen will
build upon this section and put it
into cultivation. They will move
down as soon as arrangements can
be made and make this place their
future home.—Childress Index.
Referring to the above, it is but
justice to Dr. McFarling as well as
his brother to state that the Index
speaks without authority in the
above notwithstanding the fact' that
this splensid paper is usually very
accurate in what it says. Imme-
diately upon reading this notice the
Brand editor interviewed Dr. Mc-
Farling who assured us that he has
never entertained such a thought as
leaving Hereford, and speaking for
hfs brother, he stated substantially
the same. These gentlemen found
a bargain in lands in Childress
county and took advantage of the
opportunity for a good investment;
but they would have it understood
that Hereford and Deaf Smith
county is still their homes.

Slaughter Interested.
Geo. Slaughter, president of the
American National Bank of Roswell,
was in Texico this week. Mr.
Slaughter and his associates are in-
terested in financing a railroad pro-
posed from Hereford to either Stám-
ford or Marionfield,Texas, touching
at Dimmitt. The proposed road
would cross the road from Texico to
Brownwood at a point about sixty
miles east of Texico. This crossing
point is near the geographical
center of a county, and situated as
it is in a good country it will make
an ideal location for a good town.—

Social Event.
Quite a nice and greatly enjoyed
reception was given Tuesday after-
noon from five till eight by Mrs. H.
H. Hawkins in honor of her friend,
Mrs. Marcy B. Boren,of Ft. Worth.
In addition to the much pleasure
realized through happy and conge-
nial social conversation, progressive
forty-two "was ingaged in, the suc-
cessful players being Mrs. J. W.
Burks and Mrs. G. A. F. Parker.
However, as several of the guests
not sufficiently conversant with the
game to do satisfactory playing, it
was suggested that the giving of the
prizes, souvenir spoons with date
engravings, be decided by a drawing
the result of which made Mrs.
Parker and Mrs. Chas. L. Sullivan
the lucky ones.
A beautiful and tasteful color
scheme in pink and white was carried
out by the hostess with carnations,
sweet peas and graceful streamers
from chandalier to corners of the
dinning table where delicious refresh-
ments consisting of cherry and lemon
cream, angel food and pink and
white marquerites were served.
Besides the guest of honor as an
out of town guest, there was present
Miss Tarver of Belton, those from
Hereford being Mesdames J. W.
Burks, Geo. W. Barcus, Jno. P.
Slaton, J. F. Easley, G. A. F.
Parker and Chas. L. Sullivan.
G. B. Burhans Testifies After Four
Years.
G. B. Burhans, of Carlisle* N. Y.,
writes: ' 'About four years ago I
wrote you stating that I had been
entirely cured of a severe kidney
trouble by taking less than two bot
ties of Foley's Kidney Cure. It en
tirely stopped the brick dust sedi
ment, and pain and symptoms of
kidney disease disappeared. I am
glad to say that I have never had a
return of any of those symptoms
during the four years that have
elapsed and I am evidently cured to
stay cured, and heartily recommend
Foley's Kidney Cure to any one
suffering from kidney or bladder
trouble." T. M. Coulson.
Invests More Money.
There is perhaps not a man in
Hereford who possesses a more
abiding faith in the Panhandle than
T. J. Graves of the firm of Graves,
Elliston & Co. In addition to his
already large holdings in this and
Castro counties^ Mr. Graves this
week closed a deal by which he
became the owner of the four-section
ranch, formerly owned by J. A.
Johnson of Castro and J. H. Bowers
of Hereford. The deal also included
2000 head of high-grade sheep.
