NEW YORK (AP) —
After five decades, Black
Sabbath will launch a
farewell tour next year.
The heavy metal band
starring Ozzy Osbourne
announced dates for its The
End tour, which kicks off Jan.
20,2016, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Osbourne, guitarist Tony
Iommi and bassist Geezer

American cities before
heading to Australia and
New Zealand for seven
shows. More concerts will be
announced next month.
Original drummer Bill

with Osbourne, is not part
of the tour.
The Grammy-winning
group released its self-titled
debut album in 1970. They are
pioneers of heavy metal music.

WASHINGTON (AP) —
Now a done deal, the Iran
nuclear agreement gained
critical backing from three
more Democratic senators
Thursday, deflating opponents
and boosting White
House hopes of blocking a
disapproval resolution in the
Senate and sparing President
Barack Obama from resorting
to a veto.
Democratic Sens. Cory
Booker of New Jersey, Mark
Warner of Virginia and
Heidi Heitkamp of North
Dakota announced their
support in quick succession
for the deal that aims to
curb Iran’s nuclear program
in exchange for wide relief
from economic sanctions.
The announcement from
Booker, in particular, was
closely watched because
he was under immense
pressure from segments
of the Jewish community
in New Jersey to oppose
the deal, and New Jersey’s
other Democratic senator,
at on-screen menus. Still, as
with any system that requires
driver input, there are
concerns about distraction.
“Anything that takes your
attention away from the task of
driving is not something you
want to engage in,” said Kathy
Lane, a spokeswoman for the
National Safety Council, a
nonprofit organization created
by Congress to promote safety.
Neither system has been
tested yet by the Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety,
says spokesman Russ Rader.
The institute studies both
human and mechanical
factors in trying to reduce the
number of vehicle crashes.
Consumers increasingly
want to use their
smartphone while driving
— without running afoul
of the law. For the last
few years, drivers of most
new cars have been able to
speak to their phones and
have audio stream through
a car’s speakers using the
nearly ubiquitous Bluetooth
wireless standard. However,
doing so can require fiddling
with the phone, like holding
down the home button first.

of a steering wheel button.

The Israeli government

Relatives of shooting
victims notably spoke out at
Roof’s first court appearance,
telling the alleged shooter
they forgave him for the
shooting and prayed God
would have mercy on him.
Wilson said she has met
many times with survivors
and families of shooting
victims. She said their
desires played into her
ultimate decision, but that
she appreciated that they all
respected her decision to
seek the death penalty.
“It’s definitely something a
solicitor will take into account
— the wishes of the family
and what they desire in terms
of how the case is going to
proceed,” Miller said.
Federal prosecutors have
charged Roof with hate
crimes, and his indictment
on those charges notes a
strong racial motive.
However, the court
documents filed Thursday
by Wilson don’t make
mention of Roof’s alleged
racial motive. There is no

There’s still work to
be done on making the
integration better.
One problem is that when
phones must be plugged
in — rather than left in a
pocket or purse — usage of
Internet-connected apps goes
way down, says Pandora’s
vice president of automotive
business development, Geoff
Snyder. “When it’s required for
use of the system, utilization
falls off pretty dramatically’’ So
for now, certain automaker-
made infotainment systems
with apps will be more
convenient for people who just
want to get in their cars and go.

LOS ANGELES (AP) —
Playing deejay with voice
commands will get easier
for more Americans this fall
as some best-selling cars get
updated with software that
integrates smartphones into
the dashboard.
With the 2016 model
year, Apple’s CarPlay and
Google’s Android Auto will
turn cars as affordable as a
base model Chevy Spark
into rolling robotic assistants
that give directions to nearby
restaurants or play the latest
hits with commands as simple
as “Play Ellie Goulding.”
The Associated Press
recently tried out both systems
on a 2016 Honda Accord. As
with phones, voice-activated
car technologies don’t always
work as intended, bringing
up inaccurate directions or
failing to open an app, for
example. But overall the two
systems are convenient and
incredibly intuitive.
Both CarPlay and Android
Auto should give drivers
more time to keep their eyes

IHS analyst Colin Bird
predicts that automakers in
the U.S. and Canada will sell
a modest 497,000 cars with
CarPlay, Android Auto or both
this year. The number should
jump to 5 million in 2018 and
nearly 10 million in 2020.
As smart and helpful as
the CarPlay and Android

its location, which may have
thrown a wrench into things).

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP)
— The white man accused of
killing nine black churchgoers
during a Bible study will
face the death penalty, a
prosecutor said Thursday.
Solicitor Scarlett Wilson
read a statement during a
Thursday afternoon news
conference, just hours after
filing court papers saying
she would pursue the death
penalty against 21-year-old
Dylann Roof. She took no
questions but said not all of
the victims’ families agreed
with her decision.
Wilson called Roof’s
actions “the ultimate crime
that deserved the ultimate
punishment.” Wilson said she
understands the desire of some
victims’ families to forgive
Roof, but she said forgiveness
doesn’t eliminate the
consequences of his actions.
“Making such a weighty
decision is an awesome
responsibility,” Wilson said.

race details won’t play into
the state case, Miller said.
Roof is white and appeared
in photos waving Confederate
flags and burning or
desecrating U.S. flags. He
purportedly wrote online of
fomenting racial violence,
and federal authorities have
said he used a personal
manuscript in which he
decried integration and used
racial slurs to refer to blacks.
A federal indictment says
Roof planned for months
to increase racial tensions
throughout the country
and seek retribution for
perceived wrongs he thought
had been committed against
white people.
And when it came
to picking a target, he
purposefully selected the
historic church — a centuries-
old religious institution rooted
in South Carolina history —
“in order to make his attack
more notorious,” according to
the indictment. Survivors told
police he used racial insults
during the attack.
uphold Obama’s veto, if
necessary, of a resolution
of disapproval that
Republicans are trying to
pass this month. Booker,
Warner and Heitkamp
made it 37 Democratic or
independent senators in
favor of the deal, just four
short of the 41 needed to
allow senators to block a
final vote on the disapproval
resolution in the Senate and
save Obama from exercising
his veto power.
For opponents, the
challenge now is the
opposite: to prevent a
filibuster of the agreement
and ensure congressional
passage of a resolution
putting Congress on record
against the deal, even
with the certainty that the
measure will be vetoed.
“Since it looked like
the administration was
closing in on enough votes
to sustain a presidential
veto we’ve been asking
people, just in fairness,
‘Let this come to a vote,”’
said former Democratic-
turned-independent Sen.
“We feel it is our
responsibility to our viewers
to reflect the world that
they live in and it’s a diverse

ABC Family’s numbers
were boosted by the drama
“Pretty Little Liars,” where
one of the lead characters

“The Fosters” follows the

the phone is kept charging
and powering the in-car

maps, voicemail, phone

a touch screen embedded in

One wrinkle is that Apple
reserves voice commands for
its proprietary apps — phone,
maps, texts and Apple Music.
That means the magical
ability for iPhone users to
ask the digital voice assistant
Siri such complicated tasks as
“play the top song from 2011”
will only work if you’re paying
$10 a month for Apple Music.
The less restrictive Android
Auto will allow you to use
apps like Spotify as long as
you specifically tell it to “play
Aerosmith on Spotify,” or set
Spotify as the default music
app. A Spotify subscription
also costs $10 a month.
The systems themselves
can cost users a lot more.

been victimized should not
bear the burden of making
the decisions on behalf of
an entire community. They
shouldn’t have to weigh the
concerns of other people.
They shouldn’t have to

Court documents said
prosecutors would pursue
the death penalty because
more than two people were
killed, and that others’ lives
were put at risk.
Prosecutors also said they
intended to present evidence
on Roof’s mental state, adult
and juvenile criminal record
and other conduct, as well as
his apparent lack of remorse
for the killings.
Roof faces state charges
including nine murder counts
in the June 17 slayings at
Emanuel African Methodist

expected in court again on
those charges in October.

of the agreement, “to have

The American Israel

which has spent millions

significance to the national

said the group’s spokesman,

The White House is
