Thought for Today: “If all mankind minus one, were of
one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opin-
ion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that
one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified
in silencing mankind.”

in East Texas. I live in
Lone Star, so that’s a drive
early in the morning.”
The boot camp
started early and
went for six weeks.
“I’ve never liked signing
up for things and dropping
out. I like to commit, so
I thought carefully about
the boot camp before I
signed up in October.”
Blalock said usually
at the boot camps,
the participants are
divided into beginning,
intermediate and
advanced groups, and
the participants can
choose which group they
want to work out with.
“It’s a tough workout.
John always pushed
himself. He would go to the
advanced group,” she said,
“and push beyond what
the others were doing.”
Traylor said when
he signed up for the
boot camp, he weighed
227 pounds.
“On Dec. 15,1 was
down to 200 pounds, and
by Dec. 22 I was down
to 199 pounds. I gained
a little back over the
holidays, but I weighed
this morning, and today,
I’m back at 199,” he said.
“I had been walking
since my heart surgery, but
it wasn’t enough. After I
started really working out,
camp and do a class now
every morning Monday
through Friday. Now my
wife, Betty, is coming to
the center with me to
work out,” Traylor said.
“I just feel like a teenager
again,” he said, “and
that’s a great feeling!”
Blalock said, “You
don’t need the Wellness
Center to do this, just
a strong determination
to make a change.”
It’s important to exercise
at a moderately intensive
level four to seven times
a week, she said.
“Get breathless, get
your heart rate up, have
a little bit of a hard
time talking, or you are
not at that moderate
level,” Blalock said.
“We need to push
ourselves to where we
are exercising and eating
better - healthier,”
according to Blalock.
Healthy eating means
more raw produce, more
fruits and vegetables.
“Increase your level of
activity and eat healthier.
Eat those five to seven
minimum servings of
fruits and vegetables
every day,” she said.
“You just have to make
up your mind to do it.”
I changed my diet too, gave
up cokes and carbonated
drinks and gave up all
the sugar,” Traylor said.
Now he’s seen proof that
his sedentary lifestyle and
diet were contributing
to his health problems.
“The arthritis and nerve
problems: the doctors
said it was from age. But
arthritis, from all the sitting
was just me getting rusty
because I wasn’t moving,”
he said. “And all the blood
problems ... well, I knew
I had to make a change.”
After just those few
weeks, Traylor said his
doctors could tell a marked
difference in his health.
“I’ve had several doctors’
appointments since I
started the exercise and
dietary changes. My
heart doctor and family
doctor were impressed
with what was going on
with my body,” he said.
His bloodwork and
blood count taken on
Jan. 6, just one week
ago, says it all.
“The results show totally
normal,” he announced
to a round of applause
from the crowd.
“I am thankful for that;
and the Wellness Center
is just a great place to be.
The people that go there
and work out are all nice
and kind. I did the boot
