Denison has a public meeting to-

Santa Fe, et?. The foot ia, Deniaon

There are some people in Texas
not a thousand miles from Sherman
who cant see the benefit there is to
be derived from advertising. Wo
advise these people to come up and
try tbe efficacy of tho thing just to
convince themselves. The Register
daily goes into the hands of over a
thousand roaders, and an "ad." al-
ways attracts attention.

What Ha* Taken Place There
Today.
As was announced in the issue of
the Register yesterday afternoon,
Judge Scott, of Paris arrived in the
oity this morning and assumed the
district bench.
About 8 o'clock Judge Head
opened court for a short session,
and heard tbe evidence in the case of
Turner vs. Turner. The petition
was granted.
At tho regular oourt honi* this
morning Judge Scott bad the calen-

J. R. Bond vs. Port Warner et al., a
land suit. The taking of evidonce

fact that Morrison b Fourney'b di

probable that there Hire at least 2000
citizens of St. Louis and double that
many from Parsons, Kansas, just in
Denison for the time being, eurolled
on that directory. The real popula
tion of Denison will not exceed 8000,

How a Sherman Conductor hum
Treated.
mmm
Tho Dallas Mews correspondent at
Paris this describes a conflict of a pe
culiar nature in a coach on tho Toxas
and Pacifio R'y near that city, in
which a popular railroad conductor
of Shorman figured as a participant:
"An excitiug scono occurred on tho
oust bound Texas and Pacific mail
and express betweon the city and
Blossom Prairio yesterday. A col
orod church was to bo dedicated thoro
lasbaight and a largo number of
nogroes, perhaps 200, boarded tho
train here to go down." As the dis-
tance is only ten miles, Conductor
Stevens, who had chargo of tbo train,
wus pressed for time to take up tick
eta and collect fares. He went
up to a party of four who were
seated facing , each other, it
seems, and took up all their tickets
except one, who bád his in his hat,
which ho had placed in the rack
When tbe conductor, asked for his
ticket be told him to get it himself
This caused some angry words to
pass between, which resulted in the
conductor hitting the negro in the
head with his punch. Instantly tbo
four nogroes jumped on the conduc
tor and threw him on the floor and
proceeded to beat and choke him.
The car was full of angry and excitod
negroes, who decided that thoy should
bo allowod to fight it out. Finully the
brakoman, the agent of the Paris
Transfer and the news butcher
forced their way through the
throng, and by a few well di
reoted blows forced tho belligerant
negroes to rétroat and rescued the
conductor, who waa pretty badly
