in Amarillo; at 14 was paying his way through
high school running an automobile agency in
Amarillo; at age of 16 was operating the largest
- automobile distributing and repair shop in the
Panhandle; attended University of Texas and
• worked his way through college, graduating with
distinguished honors.
MILITARY CAREER:
. Enlisted for World War in April, 1917, as
private; graduated First Officers Training Camp,
Leon Springs; was promoted step by step until
on the battle fields of France was made the
youngest lieutenant-colonel in the American
army; served 90 days in front line trenches and
later served in Army of Occupation in Germany.
