is in attendance at the oonference of
the Brownwood district of the Metho-
dist Eplscopal church. Mouth. at Cole-
man, phoned to Poly technio college
here last night that $1,018 had been
raised for the Poiytechnie college at
the conference and that $500 was also
ralsed for Georgetown university.
The fund ruimed for Polvteehnie col-
lege will be applied toward paying for
sued under an old mortgage claimed to
antedate the stock and bnd law.
The company asks for a preliminary
or provisional issue of $2,000,000 in
bonds to take the place of those to be
canceled, to be based as follows:: $536,-
589 on 48 miles of completed road from
Albany to Stamford and $270,500 on 11
miles from Ross to Waco; $630,000 ot
road to be constructed from Stamford
42 miles west and 3563,000 on 38 miles
from a point in Comanche county to
Nolan, Nolan county.
The first two valuations on the com-
pleted road are those fixed by the com.
missien and the last two are subject
to the commission’s approval or revi-
•ion after the said extensions shall
have been completed.

that it will submit to a cancellation of

An appreciative crowd of negroes met
at th* city hull last night to listen to
Protessor 1 M Terrall'a discussion on
th* "Possibitties of the negro race
in Tuskegee." -
After a prayer by Rev. D B. Moten,
Wiliam Coleman Haled that the object
of the meeting wag to impress th*
whole race with the spirit of selr-re-
lance.
“To do thia.” he said, Tt is necessary
for us to develop this spirit in us. It
is neqessarx tor us to train the youih
of today thoroughly along all linea of
usefulness (o the communties In which
we live. We do not know whet our
abilities are; the friends with whom
we are associated do not know. It I*
necessary as s matter of edueating our-
tlves aad our ft tends as to our capa-
billtie* and posaibiljties to be taught .o
depend upon ourselves."
Professor I. M Terrell then spoke of
his visit to Tuskegee. - He said tb« iu-
sutute of Tuskegee was larger than
th* town of Tuskegee, Ho visited th*
administration building, where twelve
bookkeeper* are employed, nnd where
a small hank by which the students are
taught how to save money is op-
erated. The day students ard eom-
pelled t* study three day* and work
three day* in the week. This rule ap-
plied to ail students even to those In

study two and a half hour* four nights
in th* week and one and a hulf hours
on* night in the week.
In this school there is an agricultural
department where Professor B. T.
Washington says the students are
taught to make a living out of ihu
poorest land in the country. Professor
Terrell spoke of uteam engine* he saw.
mad* in the mechanical department; of
buggies, carriages, carts, wagons, desks
and other things made out of toga
brought from the woods of Alabama,
rawed in the sawmill nt the school and
planned and finished by the students.
He said that in this school, they raise
horses, cows, chickens and hogs. He
declared that the dairy department was
one of th* finest of It* kind in th*
country From this department, stu-
dents were sent to schools and buel-
ness firms to carry on this particular
kind of business.
