A1ARRIED AT LAREDO.
Prominent Young La wyer of Mata-
moros is the Groom.
The Laredo Times of last Satur-
day reports the marriage in that
city in San Agustin Cathedral of
Eufrasio Perez Esq anvell known
lawyer of Ma'tamoros and Miss
Aurora'. Garcia of Laredo. The
report says:
"The wedding as a very pretty
one. The bride surrounded by her
numerous attendants all in weddjjhg
attire made a- pretty scene. The
church was beautifully decorated
with palms and flowers. After the
ceremony the bridal part' accom-
panied by relatives and a few
intimate friends repaired to the
home of the bride's parents where
an elegant wedding dinner awaited
them. "
"Mr. Perez is a very popular gen-
tleman and prominent lawyer1 of
Matamoros Mexico. Miss Garcia
is the accomplished and attractive
daughter of Mr. Nemesjo Garcia a
prominent citizen of this city. Miss
Garcia is particularly gifted as a
musician and is a very interesting
young lady. She is a prominent
member of El Club Social - de Sefm-
ritas which organization ir.uch re-

."Mr. and Mrs. Tercz left this
afternoon on the Aztec Limited to
spend a short honeymoon in Mon-
terey and then proceed to Matamo-
ros to make their home. The Times
wishes them a happy voyage on the
matrimonial sea."
The R. R. Committees Meet.
The members of the two railrojid
bonus committees held a meeting at
the club room yesterday afternoon
at four o'clock to consider the letter
received from Mr. Lott regarding
his railroad proposition. The Her
ald learns that it was decided to
send a reply to Mr. Lott and the
pfrotnrv .Tmln-fi E. f!. Frirfo. was
; . - .
learned it appears that this reply
will set forth an objection on the
part of several of our leading mer
chants to the clause in the proposed
railroad charter providing for a
branch railroad to Hidalgo. A copy
of the letter could not be obtained
today as .Judge Forto had not yet
submitted it to the members of the.
committee up to two o'clock. He

with its contents as soon as it is
approved by the commitee.
LAS RUSIAS ITEMS.
Death of Don Estevan GloriaCrop
and Weather Report.
To The Herald.
Las Rusias Cameron Co. Texas
Feb. 25. Rain! rain'.' rain! The
more rain the more rest as the
darkies used - to say. The rains
have been a great setback for farm-
ing but the benefit may prove more
valuable than the setback is hurt-
ful. Much of the early planted 'corn
and beans were killed bv the frost
I ofthe 17th. inst. Fortunately the
cotton had not come up.
The rains have kept the range in
fine condition and there has been
no loss in cattle.
Cut worms have destroyed much
corn in the black lands.
Died last Friday Sr. Estevan
Gloria a prominent citizen of thi3
ranch. He had been for many
years engage" inuiuiwiiuniij
hut two years ago he became
paralyzed and remained an Invalid
until his death.

WANDERING WHIM-WHAMS.
Rio Grande Texas Feb. 22.
Editor Herald: You will see
by the heading that I am a rover.
Owing to the exigencies of the pub-
lic service (hem isn't that fine?) I
came down'here. In plainer -English
the chairman of the Teachers'
Institute wrote me that my attend-
ance would prevent the Institute
from being a farce. He didn't use
those words but his letter implied
them. The appeal to my vanity was
too great and I came.
We had a disagreeable trip. It
was cold blustery and drizzling all
the way. Wo were quite a party
one less than a dozen.
I shan't say whether thelnsti-i
tute was a success. Modesty forbids. '
t
As the weather was loo cold but
few teachers attended. There were;
Miss Ernestina Vela Miss Elodiai
Lewis Miss Mamie Mix and'Miss
Woods. . Then there was our chair-
man our young popular and ro-
mito district clerk Wm. Lewis
(familiarly known by -all as "Billy")
James Livingston Wur. II. Halo
and Mr. Skidmorc but his appear-
ance was a fleeting one.
We went through the routine
business and then had a desultory
school but little was done. On Sat
urday ouf county - judge gave us a
little lecture on the duties of a
county superintendent" and urged
us to take.more pains with our in-
stitutes. After some remarks by the
chairman we proceeded to business
but as there were no set essays or
topics there is no need to bother
you with our work.
There is a streak of cruelty in
human nature but I thought wo-
man was exempt. I am now afraid
that I was wrong. There was an
examination of teachers at the court
hou-e and one of the members of
the Institute of the softer sex pro-
posed that we go up and look on!
Alas how shocking to see such
cruejty in woman lovely woman!
I didn't go. I knew how people feel
in an eznmen and I wasn't going
to countenance such inhumanity.
Friday evening there was an ac-
cident that lacked little of being
serious. Our popular county attor
ney Knox Jones went to examine
the generator of his acetylene ma-
chine with a lamp. There was an
outburst of Hamc which singed
away eyebrows eyelashes must-
ache and some of his hair and
burned the left side of his face
ra tlier badly. He is doing nicely
now though there was some fear
at first of his losing his eye. Use
only Eupion oil and no such ac-
cidents will occur.
On the night of the 16th. we had
our coldest weather. The thermo-
meter went to 30 or about and
there was a severe freeze. Lots of
corn that had come well up was cut
down but I think most of it will
sprout again so it is only a set-
back not a dead loss. "
This week the meather has been
yery unusual cold blustery grey
days with drizzles but it was beau
tiful for grass etc. The country is
looking green and grass -springing
up everywhere.
I haven't seen a Herald for near
a week. Mr. Knox Jones told me
there was to be a letter in answer
to some of my outpourings. I'm
on tenter-hooks. I warn you
beforehand that I shan't answer
unless unless well unless
